If you got them from your local TSC then they may have gotten them from a large-scale commercial hatchery (since that is usually the cheapest source for Cornish cross varieties), and large hatcheries may not grade their birds very well. If it's a problem that the chick has had for a long time...
We are located in Bellingham, but we only sell Cornish Cross chicks. I'm not aware of any other hatcheries in the area, but if you're ordering in spring or summer, birds shipping from Oregon or Idaho should do fine. We ship that far fairly often and haven't had any mortalities reported yet...
