My friend gave me 14 eggs so far only 7 have hatched but I see movement in #8. All the rest either were bad and a few were quitters. I have 7 "teenagers" now and hope these new ones will be welcomed into the flock when the time comes. I didn't think I'd like these birds but I do. They've cleaned...
I'm new at this too. There are flies in our coop but not so many as to need to deal with them yet. It would be useless here anyway as I live in a farming community. I did ask about it at the feed store but all they could offer was the sticky fly strips. Hope someone has answer for you.
Any hints on keeping water out for ducks and chicks without the ducks playing in it? I have to change the bedding in the broader twice a day because of them.
I have a lazy female duck. She's laying her eggs where a silkie is brooding. She has 3 of her eggs there right now. My question is will the silkie be ok with these, or should I move them to the incubator? Silkie has 4 of her eggs or her sister's under her with the duck eggs.
I'm so sorry for your loss. 5 years ago I had to put down my dog at the age of 5. For awhile I could see her waiting for me at the top of the stairs. I know she's with me in spirit. Death is something I don't fear.. my faith in Christ comforts me daily. I believe with all my heart my loved ones...
I'm sad right now. I checked on my chicks a few hours ago and they were fine. Just now I found the five oldest dead. Trying to figure out what went wrong with all of them gone. The youngest are ok. So are the ducks. I'm baffled.
3 little ducks have hatched. The last one pipped at the wrong end and had struggled all day. I probably shouldn't have, but I helped with the zipping some. Or unzipping. It's smaller than the others and resting now. I'll post later on how it's doing. Crossing fingers here.
Thanks. I was worried they would injure them I found another chick egg externally pipped that wasn't due until the 20th. Little baby didn't make it. :(
