Shannon Marie, if you are looking for birds that are 5 to 10 weeks that will make it a lot more difficult. Most people seem to sell young chicks or full grown birds and more than likely people will be trying to rehome roosters, not hens.
I'm not sure where in NY you are but have you tried...
I've been slowly (so many pages!) reading this and trying to catch up. Just wanted to post and make sure I don't lose the thread since when I subscribe without posting I don't get updates. I posted these elsewhere but here are mine:
It is amazing how much different they look in the past week...
Well TC by your theory that one white one and the silver partridge look to be roos (oops, I guess I was a day late getting that info). My other 3 big ones appear to be hens, and the 4 itty bitties I didn't want to dig out of the RI chicks because I was hungry, lol
I take lots of pictures and have been reading through chunks of this massive thread, so hopefully I can start to piece some stuff together... I guess I'll be waiting a while to see if you're right on the roo, 1 wouldn't be bad if he's not obnoxious...
I don't want to over react but I don't want to ignore a minor problem and have it get bad. At least one of my birds poop looks like this
I did catch it in the act (i suspect it is a he, about 6 weeks old now). Here are some pics of him as well taken today. The bird looks and acts fine.
So what you're saying is much like gender the color can be a big surprise too! NBD, I'll see how black this black chick looks and make a judgement call. It varies with them by the day too, sometimes they look more black, other times less. Natural light would be a better way to tell but I live in...
I figured it was mostly blues, I just wasn't sure if the dark ones were actually black or a dark blue (blue confuses me, it does in dogs too). I just didn't want to grab the black chick if I had some already
I am curious to see what the one in my hand turns in to since it seems to have some...
I'm really bad at this color thing so I figured I'd ask the experts. I was told the light colored big one was a blue, are the 2 other larger ones black or blue? Also is this one I have singled out a white or a blue? Basically is this a box of blues?
I found another local person who has some...
So I got a couple of "Ameraucana" chicks when I went to pick up my silkie chicks because they were mistaken on the quantity and felt bad that they were short. My boston terrier got one while we were out and since they were so sweet I went and picked up another 6 (people keep telling me about...
My 3 lonely silkies in a mess of 18. I had hoped for a couple more but they were short when I went to get them. I'll see how these little ones do and if they stay mixed well maybe add in a couple different colors
About a week:
The grayish one
The twins
Any idea what color...
I have 2 that I got as a sort of consolation gesture/ try out these breeds when I went to go pick up some silkie chicks and they had less than they thought they did. I brought home 3 silkies, 2 reds and 2 "ameraucanas" who I'm pretty sure are Easter eggers (dog got 1 and I picked up a half dozen...
Emma,
One of them is trained to drive and hardly qualifies s a mini, he's an almost 10.5 hand Shetland who will except a rider as well, just needs training. He's my baby. At 90 lbs I can get on him, it's just slightly comical. I got him so my daughter could learn to ride. The other is...
The Americaunas
The Heritage Birds, these two look identical but are 2 birds
Same with these two
