Can I see the inside of your eggs?

Quote: Thanks so much!! That makes sense why there is all that extra "liquid" in our eggs then, right? Like I said, they taste great, so we won't stop eating them. I was just trying to figure out all that extra liquid that was in them.

Can I see the inside of your eggs?

Quote: Wow, really? What are your main reasons for not eating them then? Just curious, I've never heard of anyone doing that so I'm curious for the reasons why. I know they can be funky until everything is working well.........but I don't plan on not eating them.

    Taste of eggs

I noticed a difference when we first started getting free-range eggs (about 2 years ago). They have a stronger richer flavor, my husband noticed immediately also. I think they taste great! Now when we eat regular grocery store eggs, at someone else's house for example, we think they taste...

Can I see the inside of your eggs?

I know we have a thread of the outers, but can I see what your eggs look like inside? My yolks all look perfect, nice, round, and golden, but there is a lot of watery stuff outside and I'm wondering if this is okay? I've seen it in some free-range eggs we get from the farmers market, but not...

Does anyone NOT feed a layer mash to their chickens?

Oh, there is a difference then haha. See what I know. It's definetly a crumble what we get but the people at the feed store call it mash. Oh well. I'm really happy to see that others don't. I was starting to second guess myself on not feeding it to them. I don't feel bad with them just...

How do YOU get those beautiful orangey yolks?

Our eggs are dark orange also They get a lot of table scraps, free-range, and a small amount of layer mash. I think it's just being outside in the sun eating bugs and grass that makes a good egg. It's what chickens are naturally supposed to eat.

    will roosters form colalitions?

I have this going on right now also!! I have 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte Roosters and they work together for everything and are ALWAYS together. It's like that bad clique of girls in high school, they never leave one another sides. They even work together to tackle hens to mate. That is kind of...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

1 egg out of 16 hens, but to be fair...........she is my only one that has begun laying yet haha! She started just over a week ago and gave me 7 eggs out of her first 8 days of laying, so I'm happy. They are 18 weeks old exactly.

Does anyone NOT feed a layer mash to their chickens?

Sorry, everyone here just calls it mash. It would be the same as crumbles. Just a smashed version of pellets I guess lol.

    Silver Laced Wyandottes

So the rose comb is good then, right? Why do my others have single combs lol? I think his comb looks like an overgrown hemangioma lol. This is what the other 2 look like, only one is huge and the other is a peanut.

    My Mystery Roo

Ohhhh, thanks a lot! I think you guys are right, I went and googled and he looks very similar to one. He's not as old as the roo's I found in other pictures, but I bet his coloring will fill out to fit that breed. Thanks a lot!

    Silver Laced Wyandottes

I seem to remember reading somewhere, that certain combs are more desireable for this breed. We have 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte Roosters lol, don't need them all, even though they are all very beautiful birds. But 2 of them have big single combs (you can see the top of one of the other roos in...

    My Mystery Roo

I have everyone else figured out, except for this guy. He's really pretty, at least I think so haha. It's hard to tell, my roos are very hard to get pictures of. But he has some brown, red, black, and silverish tints (these are mostly around the neck). I need to thin out my roos, I...

Does anyone NOT feed a layer mash to their chickens?

That is basically what our chickens do also. They were totally free range, until they got into my garden, so I have been keeping them in their run. Their run is about 500 square feet and there is plenty of grass, a sandy area, a little tree and so forth in there. They also have greens (swiss...

Does anyone NOT feed a layer mash to their chickens?

Growing up, we never feed our chickens. They free-ranged and would get table scraps. In the winter, they got some scratch grains and table scraps again. But no layer feed was ever bought. The hens were all healthy and produced eggs just fine. I have a friend who does this too, just gives...
