Well yes, no sign of feathers any where except those lost normally by the birds, going thru their
first molt and there is a lot of trees and bushes bordering their range area with a lot of cover
grass, leaves, twigs, so on and so on. The critter or critters could leave any tracks the ground
is...
Well our chickens are not the type to just let you walk up and pick them up,
my wife and I have 6 G.L wyandotts left and they will walk up to you to see if
you have something to eat and run away if you try to pick them up, plus if
something scares them or it just doesn't look right, they make...
The problem is that my neighbor that lives behind me,(we share the same drive)
he is closer to the woods, any way we are dealing with the same problem, it is
not happening every day or night but about every 2 to 3 weeks one of our chickens
disappears.
We will just have to stick with it until...
We have a large area that is fenced around our coop, how ever we prefer to let our chickens
get out and really free range, which is really a very large area.
The predator has to be a coyote, fox or even a stray dog, so I am planning to build
a large animal trap big enough to catch a coyote...
Hello,
My neighbor and I have lost chickens and the critter is not leaving any sign that it has
been around, not even any feathers? Our birds are taken around afternoon or evening time,
the birds just disappear, not even a sound is made.
We do have some feral cats hanging around and coons...
Thank you for your response and help, I kind of figured that we would
just have to put the birds together and let them work it out, now I just
have to convince the wife, which is gonna take some doing.
We ordered 4 hens and one turned out to be a rooster, but he seems to be OK.
One of the hens is making the noise, sounds like a goose, strange noise and
when she makes the noise, the others look at her and move away???
Well we tried to introduce our 4 RIRs to our small flock of Golden Lace Wyandottes
at first everything looked OK, then the GLWs went to work, first they cornered the
reds then separated one bird and started attacking her, pecking and pulling feathers.
Needless to say the RIRs went back into...
I purchased 4 RIRs around April 2014 and one of the hens has a cold I guess,
every evening when they go to roost in the coop, she makes noise that sounds
like a goose? I thought that maybe she had a cold, how ever it gets worse at
night?
Does any one have any ideal as to what the problem is...
Well it has been a while since I have posted to the forum, been a little busy, I had to
build a small coop for 4 RIR's that we purchased around April 5, then I built a small
brooder for some more Wyandottes that we hatched from our small flock, five hatched
yesterday and are in the brooder today...
Our eggs range from lite tan to brown, the egg shells are pretty thick and large, sometimes
it is hard to tell which end should be placed down?
I am going to make something to candle my eggs with, I have a piece of PVC pipe and flashlight
right now and I am not real happy about using that combo...
I purchased a new incubator on the 21 of May, it is the pro series circulated air
incubator and on the 22nd. I started with 15 eggs I collected from my golden
laced wyandottes, I am new to this, could someone tell me what to use to candle
my eggs and how many days should I wait before candling...
Yes I am thinking about a coop 8 ft. wide 8 ft. length and 6 ft. high 2 ft. off the ground. I helped my neighbor
build his new coop and his is 8 ft. wide 10 ft. long and 7 ft. head clearance with a peaked roof that has a 1 ft.
over hang and shingles. He covered the floor with heavy gauge black...
I forgot to mention the cool shade provided by the coop on hot and or rainy days, plus they do like
to roll in the dirt, plus they will keep the bugs off the bottom of the coop, good source of food
for the chickens.
My wife and I were talking about getting one of those Little Giant egg turners...
Our chickens will be a year old on June 11, we got when they were a day old on June 12,
sounds like a good ideal, keep them a little hungry and call them back offering some scratch.
I was thinking about letting them out to free range for 2 hours each evening for starters,
maybe they won't...
There is a reason for the ground clearance, if the coop is off the ground 1 1/2
feet to 2 foot, raccoon s, and other critters have a hard time tunneling up
through the floor and killing the chickens, a friend of my wife lost her chickens
by a raccoon tunneling up through the floor.
Do you know what the cost for postage would be for shipping to 41063?
I have Golden Lace Wyandotte chickens and I live on a farm.
Send me a PM, so we can setup shipping.
My wife and I have 9 Golden Laced Wyandotte chickens, 8 hens, 1 nasty rooster.
We have 4 hens missing feathers on their back, I guess from the rooster being
so aggressive, this rooster likes to attack when your off guard, so I guess
I will have to take care of him and soon, maybe the hens...
Hello Everyone,
My wife and I built a mobile coop last year, however it looks like we will be adding
new chicks soon and maybe every year after, so I am thinking about building a
larger coop.
I have been thinking about building a coop with a 8 foot square floor plan and about
6 foot high...
I did a little looking in a local for sale listing and I found another Wyandotte Rooster, Golden Lace if my memory is
correct a little over 1 year old, the man said he was a friendly rooster, I just need to go check him out and see how
he acts and not to far away either, plus the price is right...
