they are both Coturnix quail. I have the standard browns and spotted Italian Golden. The Italian golden have been bred for mainly egg production. so they are a bit smaller but lay very well. their body structure has a lot more "chickeny" traits lol if that makes sense lol.
It is true the lethal gene is present in goldens but manifests when you pair two goldens, but it is also dominant so if you breed with a brown you would still end up with the majority golden and you would not have the reduced hatch rate as breeding two goldens.
PS the leathal gene does not...

If you keep the poo and area DRY DRY DRY and change trays at least every 3 days. you will have minimal smell. do deep cleaning/disinfecting once a week and you should be fine. im sure your quantity of birds will affect the outcome. i keep 4 in a 2x2' and only have noticeable smell when gets wet...
