Hi Folks,
Does the nest box have to be in the coop? I rather have it in my covered chicken run for ease of access. Does anyone not have their nest box in the coop?
Thanks in advance. Have a great day and God bless.

It doesn't hook up to a hose.
Heres a URL to the same the one I got, except the one I got was the 2.75 gallon version.

Hi Everyone,
I got a box of leftover dry milk that nobody seems to want to drink in our house. Can I just mix this into my chicken's feed? Or am I better off mixing it up with water and letting them drink it?
Have a great day and God bless.

Hi Folks,
I just went to Petsmart and bought a dog waterer that is 2.75 gallons. This automatic waterer has Microban built in to resit germs and such in the water dish.
Is this harmful to chickens? I figure if Microban is built into human and dog/cat products, should be okay for chickens...
Hi Folks,
I finally got my Perma Guard DE!!!
Biofuel Oasis in Berkeley was able to order it for me (without breaking the bank).

They also carry chicken feed from Modesto Milling.

Seems like their products (organic) have great...
Hi Everyone,
Okay I just found another place in San Francisco that sells chicken feed too! Its the Sunset District and its called Animal Connection on Judah Street. I was there to purchase some crickets and lo and behold they sell chicken feed. No big 50 pound bags, just smaller 5 pounders...

Its more for fun and hopefully, when I cut it, the chicks will like to eat or play with it. After that, it'll go into my new compost tumbler.

The die thingy is used to make each of the sheets more ridged. Also, it makes it so it can overlap the next one and be more uniform like real metal roofing.
I live near the beach so wanted stainless steel staples for the staple gun to attach the cans. Couldn't find it at Sears, Home Depot or...
Hi Folks,
Thanks for the replies. I was at Lowes today and they didn't have the shower membrane that Home Depot had. The one at Home Depot was pretty thick, must of been about 1/8 (or a tad thinner).
I had a brilliant and cheap idea. Linoleum is cheap and cheap enough to do two layers of...
Hi Everyone,
I would like to incorporate a "green roof" for my coop that is currentlyYourLinkGoesHere in progress. I'll like to put down a rubber shower liner and then on top of that maybe 2-3 inches of soil to grow grass or plants of some sort.
Is 2-3 inches enough for grass to grow? And...
I found this website pretty helpful for the needs for a chick/chicken's lifecycle.

Thanks Joe, neither one are not. San Jose is probably the closest and its about an hour away. I'll probably, wait till I have other stuff to get before going there.
Thanks again!

I was hoping to use DE for both feeding to the chickens (every so often) and also for sprinkling it on the floor every week. For the deep litter method, wouldn't I be like sprinkling a handful or two? So a 2 pound bag might not last 2 months?
You can purchase cheaply Plaster of Paris at Home Depot and its in the painting section. When I first looked for it, I kept going up and down the cement isle... Its like 14 bucks for a 20 pound bag. I'm sure at Michael's art supply, it'll be much more expensive for the same poundage.

Great thanks for the info. I'm in San Francisco and tried a called a bunch of feed stores and they either didn't know what it was or didn't sell it.
Thanks
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know of a local place to purchase DE? The several Feed and Supply stores I talked to don't carry it nor do they special order it. The closest I found was Stall Dry.
I even went to a local pet store and the clerk never heard of it and her coworker said it was...
Hi Everyone,
I'm building my coop with, I believe 16 gauge hardware cloth. My neighborhood had a bunch of large ravens. I'll enclose the top of the run and might do a double wall of hardware cloth for the sides (got a few feral cats and raccoons too).
Can a raven tear off or tear apart the...
Hi Everyone,
I have four 5 week old chicks. They seem to be very spoiled. They will eagerly eat food if I dangle it in front of them, but the second I drop it on the floor they ignore it. For example, if I have a red worm and hold it they will try to snatch it then run off with it. When i...
Boy o boy. What a bad idea...
Well I took hot water and bleach to kill them off and um, it was quite gross. The ones that made the bleach flood, to my dismay were able to climb the bucket wall. Next, I got a can of WD40 and sprayed the walls. It worked for awhile but the more vigorous ones...
