I didn't seal it but it over flowed and smelt badly of sick, I have chucked it as i was nervous and will start again making sure it stays under the level of the water.
Hi Everyone,
Have been trying to ferment some of my chicken food, I think have to start again, it grew rapidly and burst out the top, exposing itself to oxygen (a bad thing i gather) i stirred it back in and it is alright now, it smells sour, tangy but also a bit like sick, I have fed a tiny...
Hello,
I believe my last flock had MG, they died 6 weeks ago due to predators and i am looking to get some more chickens in another 6 weeks. I think i understand about disinfection... etc, but i am unsure about buying my new stock, I found have a breeder who vaccinates, good or bad idea? What...
OK, thanks, seeing as i will add my new birds 3 months after the old died i think it will be alright! the only thing i am concerned about is due to my coop design, it is hard to thoroughly clean it.
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately a fox get in. It is quite difficult to thoroughly clean my coop (stupid design) do you think that will matter if left for long enough? Thanks again
If it vital that everything is out? my coop is quite difficult to get everything out. Am i wrong in thinking that MG bacteria die after a few weeks of no host?
Hi All,
I suspect my chickens and ducks had MG, unfortunately a fox got in and killed them all about 1.5 months ago. I have only today cleared out the coop but my question is, Will the disease be dead? My plan is to get some more chickens in about 6 weeks. Is this a silly idea?
Thanks in...

A fox isn't going to 'respect' your birds because they are a food source for him, you can't put them in front of him and expect him not to hunt them, that is like putting a kid in a candy shop. It isn't fair. You are controlling the rabbit population to want YOU, as a human, feel is acceptable...
I am not here to get into an argument but at the end of the day, Humans have an idea of superiority, we cannot kill anything and everything that we decide is worthless or unnecessary because every single organism has a unique and valuable role to play. It is our responsibility as owners to...

Not really, but they are still at the young and stupid stage...so it is hard to say. If you want alert I stand by my original statement, you want to look at EEs. You do not need a full flick of them, two would be enough to alert the rest of the flock (don't get just one, they like a buddy...
OK, Thank you, I will add them to my list of potentials!
Thanks Chicken Chaser, haven't really researched Jersey giants before but my concern is that the only real predator we have here are foxes, I don't think they are too put off my size.
