Giving Apple Cider Vinegar to Chickens during hot temperatures

Please do a search on acv with chickens. You will find ALOT of information on the subject. High level: People swear by it. No science behind it. My chickens will refuse to drink water if they taste it in there....so it's really up to you.

How I am dealing with the heat

Next idea I had: Take a cupcake pan, put wate/corn in it. Freze the pan. The chickens will peck the ice to get the corn out.

    Are my chickens overheating?

I keep my chickens in a fenced run/coop. I do let them "free range" my backyard but I live in a heavily residential area and the back yard is minimal. As a result I stuck this on the outside of the caged run blowing in thru the fence. Chickens can't touch it but can feel the air. I had never...

Oh crap! Yeah they can eat it. Some people even say it helps with egg production. Uhm...it will not hurt them but no way can it be a good idea. I would remove it right away

    Fence Height for "Free Ranging"

I have a dowel at chicken waist height in the coop. They can get on that and into a nesting box but not much else. Perhaps a few inches is a stretch but definitely no where near my fence height

    Fence Height for "Free Ranging"

Hi there - I live in a major city/urban neighborhood. Standard 6 foot fence in the backyard. I clip the wings two times a year and never have a problem. The chickens can not fly/jump more then a few inches off the ground. The wings grow out so when I notice they can start to fly...I clip them...

How often do you sanitize feeders/waterers?

I took the appoarch that my chickens needed to be clean, odorless and limited work for me. This has worked perfect so far. Feeder: I don't use a chicken feeder. I just toss a handful of feed on the ground in am/pm. Run: Sand bedding. I use a kitty litter scoop and scoop it out once every other...

    Sexing experts

The thought process is rooster are going to act big and bad and hang out while you hang them by the neck. Hens in theory should be afraid and move their legs. Boys =fearless girls = scared

    Panicky pullets

The goal is to make the chickens associate you with pleasure <-- This is key! As a result, take grapes or raisins and give the chickens a treat. You will read you should limit the treats (that logically makes sense) however if you have treats with you and give them treats for a week or two...I...

What do you guys think?? Opinions wanted!!!

Look at the legs. They look very thin. Look at the comb/face. It has a red comb but it is not overly large. Look at the saddle feathers. These are the feathers right front of the tail. They appear round. Hens have thin legs. Cockerels have thicker legs. Hens have red combs but not large...

When can the chicks go outside?

Here in northern California, the outdoor temperature is between 95 to 105 degrees during the day right now but the weather drops to the 70's at night. I went to a feed store yesterday. This particular feed store keeps all of their chickens out back outside of the store. The feed store is owned...
