Is anyone interested in a Blue Polish pair I bought from Muffi in early April in Westford (price negotiable)? They were both supposed to be pullets, but as of this week, let's just say there's been a dramatic difference in appearance...then...um...mounting....then yesterday...
Does anyone have some fertile eggs I can come up and buy today (within 1/2 hour or so of Nashua)? (preferably EE or Maran). I have a very broody hen who might as well be sitting on some eggs that will actually hatch!!!! It has been three days now, and she just isn't going to give up, lol!--Gail
I guess I want to do whatever will make her stop being broody the fastest! If hatching chicks will do it, then that's fine! If I take her away and she's just going to keep going broody, then she'll drive me nuts! I guess my maternal instincts are making me sympathetic!!!!
All 5 of my hens seem to want to lay their eggs in the same box...the one that my one broody hen has claimed for her own. I've barely been able to snatch the eggs out from under her the last three days (she is NOT pleased with me). Should I try to find some fertile eggs to put under her, and...

I am thinning out my flock of layers to make room for some breeding projects. I will have a Russian Orloff and a Black Jersey Giant. Both are less than a year old, good layers and sweet birds. The Orloff was well-loved by my previous roo, but her back is looking better lately. She also...
I'm looking for 6-8 layers, hopefully an assortment of breeds. I'd love several EE's and a darker egg-layer in the bunch. If anyone has any that they can commit to me, please let me know (and prices). Thanks!--Gail
Well, all I can say is HOLY CHICKEN!!!!
I bought three laying hens (from Wendy?) (cochins?) and between them they managed to lay FIVE eggs today!!!! I think one of the ladies has a calcium issue, as the egg was all wrinkled, but the shell was hard (????) Another egg was sort of chalky...
Mine do this with their feed. I suppose in our case it is more natural for them to like feed on the ground than in a feeder. As far as your nesting box goes, that's interesting! Maybe they are decorating!?
I was pretty sure this little red frizzle (about 16 weeks) was a girl, starting to mature, until I heard what I fear was a "cock-a-doodle-doo!" today. Does she look like a HE to you???
I should add that the day before, I opened the egg door to find my best EE squatting above her beautiful egg and the egg-eater with her claw around the egg, trying to grab it out from under her!!!!!
(I grabbed it back)
In another thread someone suggested putting some golf balls in the nesting boxes. The theory is that the egg eater will try pecking at it (unsuccessfully, of course), and that will discourage her from pecking at the actual eggs.
I put out golf balls five days ago and I've gone from 1-2 eggs...
