At the auction in Topeka a guy usually brings barrels that were used for storing sugar. They go cheap enough and are clean with nice lids that lock down.
The price depends on size really. I'm selling mine for $300 each, and the parents are around the size of my 50lb bulldog.

I usually have chicks of many different sizes because I incubate both chicken and peacock eggs. Would you think this would work even with the different chick sizes, or would I run into a problem?
