Hi there,
This may have already been covered a thousand times...however I must ask as I get headaches from reading and am unable to do much research and reading online...Here is my dilemma...
I purchased Silkie hatching eggs from two different people and hatched them in my incubator...then...
I am wondering if anyone can tell me what breed of rooster and what breed of hen I would need to have to be able to have my own broiler chickens hatched and raised? I have read that the broilers are a giant Cornish cross, but cross with what? I would like to breed and raise my own broilers...
Hi there,
Not sure what it was. It has been very rainy and a bit chilly at night here up until the other day. So far so good. Less sneezing and no loss of life yet...I'm hoping thats a good sign.
Hot day today!!! ;-)
I am raising broilers for the first time myself. I opted out of having them vaccinated and have fed them non-medicated feed. Within the first few days I lost 4 chicks and now they are three weeks old and today I have noticed that they are sneezing and breathing heavy. I have them outside in a...
Hey there,
No it's not hot here in Alberta...we might get a warm summer day sometime in July. Been cooler and rainy here, so the heat is not an issue. Thanks for the tip on the meat bird forum, don't know this site well enough yet to figure out where I need to go.
Thanks again. ;-)

I am happy to report that I got good restitution for my loss...and it was just a freak occurance as the dogs were my neighbors son's that he brought and tied up in his parents yard for the holidays, while he took off to another city. They are big husky dogs and weren't used to being tied up and...
My Ameracauna just started laying a week ago at about 20 weeks old and the first two eggs she laid were normal blueish green. Now we don't find her eggs in shells, but the eggs without a shell. And she is laying in the coop, not the nesting boxes like the other birds and in the common area...
My girl is still active and eating and drinking well...she just shakes her head a lot and over stretches her mouth a bit often. I caught her and tried rubbing her neck/crest, feeling for inflammation and looking in her mouth...didnt' see or feel anything...thinking about trying a salt brine...
Thank you all for the warm welcome!!! I am starting again...and they are beautiful birds...I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for them to lay...miss fresh eggs. In time I should have plenty and then some and be wondering what to do with them all!!
Hi there everyone!
I am fairly new to chickens and had a little bit of a rough start with raising them. I decided I wanted fresh eggs instead of store bought eggs and it just so happened that my sister in laws, mom, was way over stocked with birds that were laying already, so we got ourselves...
Hi There,
I'm brand new to this forum and fairly new to raising chickens. I am having a similar issue with my chicken. A couple of weeks ago I lost one of my Ameraucanas. He became very docile and lethargic with blinking eyes, and head shaking and was drinking a ton of water the last day...
