LOL -- thanks for the reply...but that was from like almost 2 years ago -- they've all grown up! You are correct though, the first box was silver-laced polish (and they turned out to be mostly male so we had to give them away). The last one was indeed an easter egger :)
Thanks for the insight. Would it possible to remove the Rooster from them for a few days at a time to let them have time to heal? Or will that mess up the entire pecking order?
I actually had a couple more roosters (that were much more alpha than my current one), so we gave them all away...
Here's the photos: http://imgur.com/a/gTtrl
Background, about 25 hens and 1 rooster live in a 150 ft coop (with outside time). They have a giant 5 gallon waterer and 5 gallon feeder.
Is this a disease/infestation problem?
Is this just what hens look like and is normal? (Some of them don't...
Hey! I was the "friend" who got three baby chicks last year! They're all doing very well, one turned out to be a roo and the two others are hens. The roo is very protective of his girls! All three are different colors and very pretty (since they're a "land race"). Anyway, you should get in...
I'm interested to see if your requests are met, please let us know. It was nice that they put those specifics on your invoice, I asked for a couple of specific breeds but they just wrote "Customer looking for good assortment." Although, in the end I was still very happy with my assortment (but...
Wow! 26 Polish! That's pretty awesome--I only got 19 (and 13 of them were Silver Laced Polish). Your chicks look really big for one month! Mine are three weeks now and they still look pretty small, I wonder if I'm not feeding them enough.
Do your chicks run away from you/are frightened by...
Hrm. What did you ask for and what did you get?
What are "no thank you" birds?
On my order I wrote that I wanted: "Silkies, Turkens, Top Hats and EEs for pets. No meat birds please."
On my invoice they wrote "Customer looking for assorted variety for pets. No meat birds."
In my actual...
But as two week old chicks, is the 18% starter/grower feed acceptable, or should I up it to 20%? I haven't decided what I'm going to do when they reach laying age (since it's a mixed flock of male/female and light/medium/heavy breed chickens). I read here that some people just use layer feed...
Does anyone know of any general guidelines for what % protein we should be feeding backyard chicks/chickens? Online, different feeds come with different % amounts. From what I've seen:
18 to 22% for first 6 weeks
18% for week 7-18
16% for week 19 and on
Is this the correct protein % for my...
Only 1.5 hours? I spent days on this thread (reading some comments more than once) before finally putting in my order! It's pretty cool that there's a "surprise" aspect to it--but its both good and bad. However, if you know exactly what you want (and would be disappointed if you didn't get...
YET? YET! I hope not to lose any
However, I've been coming across a bit of pasty butt -- at least 2 or 3 every day that needs to be cleaned. I've been running their butts under warm water and slowly pulling away the poop. However, I've taken a few of their feathers with me while doing...
Awesome! Be sure to tell us what you get in your second surprise! What did you do with all the chicks from your first surprise? What kinds of chicks did you get in your first surprise (how many female/male)?
Congrats! It's super fun! Be sure to let us know what kind of chicks you got...
Thank you for taking the time to help me identify my mystery bunch! 19 Polish, but 13 of them are Silver Laced! I don't know what I'm going to do with so many--my entire surprise is filled with almost all black/white chickens! (I'm going to need to buy matching decor).
Which dual purpose...
Awesome, I really hoped there would be some Easter Eggers in my mix, now I'm just hoping I get a few girls out of the possible 4 that I have. The last one is my favorite, I've named "her" Danger. Since, I dropped her from like two feet high (while I was moving her) but she sprung right back up...
