I hope this helped you all. I updated a couple of things but nothing major. I like the rain water catch idea from bwalden, (but here in SoCal we're lucky to get any rain!). I have a free range rabbit and duck who also use this waterer -from the outside- which is convenient!

    Poultry Grit and Oyster Shells??

Thanks for this thread. We've never offered our hens grit or oyster shell. They free range on dirt all day and eat lay pellets. But we plan to fence them in, so we'll look into getting some of both.

Quote: Great recycling, could you leave the lid on the vinegar jar? Maybe use a funnel to fill? I agree. And if you left the cap on the jug to seal it, you could also use this as a waterer. But you would have to silicone-glue it to the bottom dish.

Quote: I like this one! And since it's inside, it won't get wet! I also like that it's one unit, so that the whole thing can be removed for cleaning, if necessary. Thanks for sharing!

    Is this one a roo?

Looks like a roo. I have a chick who is getting tiny spurs on the legs, so I'm thinking roo.

If your husband came home with this.....

I say slap a tow hitch on it and get a small trailer for hauling! Mulia, we do call Mitsubishi, Mitsu. But no nicknames for the rest.

construction of my pen/coop, suggestions welcomed

Bison, thanks for posting that link. Great idea! I'll see if I can incorporate that into my plans on our new coop. Ron, I agree that a side door would be best. Maybe 12" x14"? The ramp could be attached to the bottom frame.

Those FarmTek waterer nipples - Can they be used under pressure or only for gravity feed? Meaning, can I have them on a water line or only at the bottom of a bucket filled with water? - edit - - Oh duh - I just found a thread that says low pressure can leak, gravity feed is better. How high do I...

Do Marans take longer to lay? Because my Wheaton still has not laid and I bought her as a pullet in June. She's big & beautiful, but NO EGGS!

    Building a farm .. Updated 8/24 Complete/ *PICS*

I love seeing these progress pics! We had a house fire 2 years ago and had to gut the whole house to the framing. We did much of the work ourselves and now everything is new! (Our plumbers took forever, too!)

So we ate our first chicken........ ewww

Quote: Yes, I did that too with 2 roos. We paid someone to dress them and learned how, but the next 2 roos we had we just gave away. We didn't enjoy eating a bird we knew.

    Infectious Bronchitis? Advice needed please

I've had this problem after buying 2 silkie roos and one died, so I treated our whole flock of 5 with Terramycin powder in their water, and that worked. Good luck.
