My chickens are free range but have a coop for egg laying. We open in the morning and close it in the evening. We have no fenced in areas for them but the stay together. The roosters guard them constantly. Most of the birds go in at night but some won't. They usually all enter their nesting...
My chickens are there for a job but I love them, talk to them and when they were little even sang to them. We choose not to eat our chickens as they are pets too. I'm a first timer with roosters though. Not sure about them.
We raised Americauna chicks from the egg stage. I have 11 pullets/hens. (I'm new at this). We have to Roos and other breeds around the farm. This morning one of my 5 month old Americaunas was on an empty nest. How do I know if she is a first timer struggling to lay her first egg or broody?
I have a puller/hen who was sitting on an empty nest this morning. How do I know if she is a beginner egg layer or is struggling? She is almost 5 months old and an Americauna.
I have three lohmann chickens. I bought them from an Amish man at the Soulard Market in St Louis, Mo. So far only one is laying, but they are jumbo, brown eggs.
Mine are lavenvelders. They are from Germany, I think. They are beautiful and feisty. We bought three adults at a swap meet. I think they are fairly rare.
Thank you for your encouragement! We are very new to this. Will they dig for dust to dust bathe or do I need to provide something? We got our first egg today!
