    Truth needed

Ok Truth needed, well you asked and I'm not shy so I will give you nothing but honest answers. Even if you have roosters with your hen's it doesn't mean you will have babies. Just pick up your eggs often. Either use or sell them, you don't want to leave any to set on them and become broody. It...

    incubator death

This happens to all of us. I have to ask ? Are these eggs from your stock or did you buy them from somebody to hatch out ? Sometimes this is how you find out if it is time to get a new Roo or not. Lots of people think if a Rooster is mating with the hen's then he's got to be fertile (wrong). I...

Is this a Blood Ring :-(

Yep, looks fertile and there is no blood ring in there. Watch it for a few days and check it again, from large end. Then you should be able to tell more. :D

    No eggs

I know this will sound funny but, try sprinkling some crushed red pepper flakes ( free from Pizza Hut ) on floor and let her eat some. Doesn't affect taste of eggs at all. Should start laying within 3 days. If this doesn't work she may be older than you think. Ole timer told me this secret and...

    Okay, few more questions....

Don't know what happened there Lol I was trying to respond to a guy having problems with humidity in his bator. With plugs out this will mess with that right at hatching time. I remove both plugs when babies show up outside of shells.but I keep both plugs in as long as I can for the moisture.Yes...

    Okay, few more questions....

I think you misunderstood your instructions. Mine say red plugs should remain in the top until you have one chick hatch fully then you remove the one higher on lid. This is for ventilation and to help in drying the new babies. When all hatch the second one can be removed. Hope that helps

    Do you name your chickens?

I figured everybody did this, was I wrong? I will start with my Roos #1 is Cogburn( like the John Wayne movies) #2 is Floyd cause he's quiet the pretty boy. #3 is Blackberry my black Silkie and got his name from that big BB up on his head 12 RIR's hen's that I didn't name and can't tell EM...

how to keep eggs from freezing in nesting box!?

I know this is going to sound kinda funny, but here goes, when I was building my coop I wanted to just use what I had on hand (Frugal gal here ) , I had a 6 station nesting box with the wood flip down ramps but I had 23 hens that were to share these, so sometimes there was a waiting line. LOL I...

I have a hen named Gypsy that went missing 5 days ago.

I have two dogs, a Siberian husky 1 1/2 yo F & a 6 mo. F American Bulldog - believe it or not the Husky ( which has the worst reputation around small animals ) , happens to be my chicken dog and takes her job very seriously, she also guards our rabbits as well, alerts when anything is wrong. A...

I have a hen named Gypsy that went missing 5 days ago.

Thanks Sean Ola for your concern, but no luck here on my end. I saw a very large Hawk (Red tailed) I think, it was up high gliding in the high winds yesterday. Way to high to get a really good eye view of the bird. Several buzzards seem to be circling also. If I figure out what happened to Boots...

I have a hen named Gypsy that went missing 5 days ago.

Well seems we have a lot in common, I lost a hen on Christmas Day same as yours, in the daytime, I live in south east Ok. By Lake Texoma . Mine was a RIR 1 1/2 yo hen named Boots, and like yours not even a feather anywhere ! I let my flock free range and she just didn't come home to roost that...

6 hens have stopped laying - it has been four months and not a single egg!

You didn't say how old your hens are ? Or how many, kind ? Well I have had your problem before and this is what I did ( laugh if you want too ) . I put a light on a timer in the coop to add 4 - 6 hours of additional light these winter nights & I fed my chickens some hot pepper, yes, the free...

How can I get my chickens to like me again??

WHat I have seen is they like to share the nesting boxes. I would recommend that you have the nesting boxes lower than the roost. That way they won't be trying to sleep in them and poop in their sleep in the boxes. Everyone learns as we go along. Try to keep as natural as you can. Less chemicals...
