Bobwhite joined my chickens, now what can I do?

I don't know of anyone directly around me that raises them. I tried to look online and there seems to be a few farms that sell them but they are about 7 miles away. He has been here for a solid week now and doesn't seem to have any intention of leaving. The only extra food I supply (besides the...

Bobwhite joined my chickens, now what can I do?

Those are some great suggestions thanks! I'm in Florida so I feel like a 5 gallon bucket might be like a sauna at night with just a small hole in it. Maybe I will drill a bunch of little holes for ventilation all over it. My chicken coop has a lot of windows and a fan so I'm big on keeping them...

Bobwhite joined my chickens, now what can I do?

3 days ago I had a funny little looking bird running around with my 7 chickens. After searching I found he is a Bobwhite Quail. I have no idea where he came from. My girls have fully accepted him. He stays with them even though he is capable of hopping through the fence that keeps the chickens...

Looking for a breeder or hatchery in Florida or Georgia that vaccinates

Does anyone know of a hatchery in Florida or Georgia that offers vaccinations? I'm having a difficult time finding one. I need my chicks to be vaccinated but don't want to order the minimum number of 15 from Murray McMurray. Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

You certainly have a good mix going! Is it possible that the girls just have blue eyes? My little buff Orpington had blue eyes when she was younger and oh wow, my cuckoo maran had crystal blue eyes... You may just have some blue eyed babies! I will see if I can find a good picture to show you...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

Oh no! I'm sorry you're having issues! I know it's kind of tricky but if there is any way I could see a picture it would be a lot of help. Have you introduced any new birds to the flock besides hatching yourself? Also do you know if of the older girls and rooster you have, did they have any...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

I'm letting you all know with a heavy heart that I had to put shauna, my SLW with ocular mareks, down yesterday. For about 2 weeks I had mothers intuition that something bad was going on. She was just acting a little less active, then started holding her tail to the right. Anyway, yesterday...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

Thank you for sharing. I feel like I have read everything I can get my hands on that has to do with marek's but find the only real comfort, ideas, and suggestions have come from the people who have it in their flock and are dealing with it directly like aldarita and saltandpepper2. I wish I had...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

First off, marek's sucks and I'm sorry you have it. You said you got a diagnosis in October, how old was the hen that died in order to give that diagnosis? Also you said that you had two that showed up with the strange eye, did you have one of them killed just to find out even though it was...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

Saltandpepper2, I have been concerned that there could be things that are making it tougher on them. But I have no idea what else to do for them. They have a super clean area that they sleep in. I pull out the slide that catches their nightly droppings and clean it every morning with a hose...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

Poor Rosario! I had no idea sand could impact their crop! Gosh chickens are so delicate. I hope so bad she pulls through. I was even thinking about your girl today when I was out with my girls. It's just when you find yourself doing everything right and they still are suffering it's so...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

This is Baraca. I've been worried she's next. She is so much smaller than the others but maybe it's just her breed. Her poop has been weird the last few days and I feel like her eyes are starting to look tired. She is about 21-22 wks old.

    A sick roo- help!

It's next to impossible for me to know from pictures alone but maybe vent gleet? http://www.tillysnest.com/2012/12/vent-gleet-prevention-and-treatment.html Poor guy. I would isolate him from the others, evern though he's the rooster you wouldn't want them messing with him.

4 1/2 month roo swallowed equivalent to small toothpick

Thanks for caring! He is still doing really well no more signs of anything. And about that straw eating, I catch my naughty girls eating it too even though they have soooo many other better options. I just make sure I have chick grit available for them and they free rage most of the day and pick...

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

My SLW showed the ocular form at 36 wks. I wonder if the tumor will continue to grow and if she's walking around with a migraine all the time.

Has anyone ever had a chicken survive ocular marek's?

I'm quoting this from The GreatBig Giant Marek's FAQ (by Nambroth) thread found on this website. "The most important thing to know about chicken Marek's vaccines is that they are not a cure, they are not an immunity, and they are non-sterilizing. In short, this means that giving a chicken a...
