Skin ripped off (warning: graphic pictures of wounded chicken)

Thank you I will try although I have noticed she's holding her own when in the coop - pushing the others aside to get food. I tried to put a cover on the wound - which must have been hilarious to watch but will put her next to coop when weather gets better. Thanks again for your help.

Skin ripped off (warning: graphic pictures of wounded chicken)

Thank you for your help. It's pouring here in NZ so I may wait until weather is better. She is doing really well though and I am so happy I could save her.

Skin ripped off (warning: graphic pictures of wounded chicken)

Hi and well done healing your chicken. Our dogs attacked ours and she had no feathers on her back and neck. A scab formed and after 2 weeks inside i put her back in coop. Other chickens have pecked the scabs off (actually looks better) but I bring her in now as I don't want her to be pecked. How...

    Do Chickens Mourn ?

Hope your chickens and roo are doing better. I lost my first chicken in the weekend - not sure what happened I just found her under the bush not moving. With the help of BYC I put her in a dark, quiet and warm place but she died. She too was the boss of the coop and it has been quiet ever...

    Chickens have stopped laying

We found Gertie under the bush at the back with only feathers around. I read BYC and put her in a quiet warm dark place but she died & I do miss her because she was the boss of the pack. Good news though yesterday I had 2 eggs - although one was a funny colour and today 3. So they are all...

Can I help my chickens? I've only had chickens for 7 months and We lost 1 of our 4 chickens last week, don't let me relive that trauma! I have always had 4 eggs every day. Now I am getting one. All my chickens seem ok - eating well although the coop is quieter since Gertie died. Is this...

Hello from NZ a sad introduction

Thank you so much - This was Gertie. It was pretty quiet this morning in the chook house as she always either yelled for me to get up or came up to the back door if I was late for food! I'm not 100% sure what breed she was or how old they look like Rhode Island Reds. I got them from a friend...

Hello from NZ a sad introduction

Yea the weird thing is we don't have predators like you guys do. I have dogs but seriously the chickens rule them - the dogs pull down the netting to let the chickens out! We know who is the boss here! There were a lot of feathers but nothing else. She was a pretty kool chicken tho - if...

Hello from NZ a sad introduction

Hi everyone. I am a new member but have used all the information you have shared on Backyard Chickens since I got my 4 laying hens in January. From what to feed them to putting golf balls in their laying area - your advice has been a saver! Unfortunately not tonight I arrived home to one of my...
