Hi Eggcessive. I'm sad to report Honey didn't make it - she got worse over the last few days and died this morning. We were booked to see the vet tomorrow, so didn't get to confirm if it was a stroke or not, but that's our guess based on lots of reading and following as much advice as we could...
I will report back post visit to the vets (booked for Thurs as this is the earliest the avian vet can do), thanks Eggcessive. I don't think it's Mareks as they had a full vaccination programme from the farmer who bred them http://www.stagenhoe.co.uk/chicken-vaccination.php
Thanks for your reply eggcessive. Two new chooks came around four months ago but they all seem to be getting on well at the moment so I don't think it is bullying or fall related. I use a vitamin tonic in their water most weeks but I am thinking as she's older than the other two her body may not...
Morning!
Can anyone help me figure out what may be wrong with my 4 year old hybrid, Honey, please?
I've read this excellent guide but it doesn't seem to be any of these problems https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/leg-foot-and-toe-issues-in-poultry-of-all-ages
She couldn't stand up this...
Hello all
Mini update since my last post three weeks ago...
All plans to keep one chook until we moved house went out the window as, this week I was given two recuse chickens to add to my 'flock'. The birds came from a chicken boarder who was looking after Honey while I was away last week...
Thanks everyone. You've put my mind at rest a little and it's great to be sure of Tilly and Tanya's breeds.
LofMc - we do usually get our next door neighbour to look after the hens when we go away for short trips but they've just moved and we thought it was a bit too soon to be asking the new...
After my https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1143673/is-it-cruel-to-keep-just-one-chicken/ post a few weeks ago, all plans to keep one chook until we moved house went out the window as, yesterday I was given two recuse chickens to add to my 'flock'. The birds came from a chicken boarder who was...
Thank you for your replies everyone. It's obviously early days but two days in and Honey seems to be doing well and doesn't seem to be missing her sister at all I was in and out of the garden most of the day today so she had lots of company, although it may be different if I need to be out of...
Sadly I don't have a heating pad but I will look into getting something if the hot water bottle doesn't work out. I may bring her inside when the weather gets really cold. Thanks sunflour.
Thanks for your reply sunflour. Yes, I think you're right to wait a few days to see how she fares. I've also realised since my first message that the remaining hen (Honey) will be very cold by herself overnight so I plan to giver her a hot water bottle to snuggle up to.
We had our first experience of chicken bereavement this morning (the black beauty in my profile picture) :(
I’m a bit sad but trying to think practically, ie about the one chook left behind rather than the one which has left us. I’m hoping to move house in a few months’ time and didn’t plan...
Hi all
Can anyone recommend a site that lists show dates and locations in the UK?
This is the best I've found so far, but I'm not sure if it includes them all...

Thanks dawg53. There have been no more feather fights in the last week, thankfully. We're still dealing with the slops but I'm putting it down to the warm weather and them drinking lots of water!
Hi all
I've been meaning to post for a while but kept thinking 'they'll get better soon' then this morning I opened up my coop to find feathers everywhere and the water bowl and perch pushed over - it looked like a chicken bomb had hit!
A couple of months ago our two one year old hens got...
