    Ideas for repurposing pallets

W Thats really cool. I have a question though. A couple of years ago I had about 20 given to me, and had planned to build something with them. But I found it so hard to get them apart that I gave up on it entirely. What's the best way to get pallets apart?

Don't use your clothes dryer!!! :-)

Quote: No, I'm sorry, but you're off topic here. The point isn't how much electricity my family is still using - the only thing I can say with regards to it being higher than you would expect is "we're working on it" :-). The point is that without having made any other significant changes...

Don't use your clothes dryer!!! :-)

I agree, it does seem like a lot. Research I've done on the internet doesn't imply that much of a saving, but it is pretty much the only major change we've made since last winter, and while the weather has been somewhat warmer this year, it's not that much different from previous years...

Don't use your clothes dryer!!! :-)

I'm really gad you asked me that question!!! Until now I just kind of figured that a wood stove was a wood stove, was a wood stove, but then in trying to answer your question I googled it and came up with all these different types!! Now I've gotta sit down and do a bit of reading :-). But...

    wanting to live the dream!

Have you ever considered digging a surface well? Not sure if it would be an option in Tennessee, but I think they are considerably cheaper to install....

Don't use your clothes dryer!!! :-)

Hey all, Just thought I'd pass this along for anyone who's interested. In the summertime we pretty much only dry clothes on the line outside, but in the winter we've always relied on a clothes dryer. So I know this is not a new idea or anything, but this year, since our woodstove is in the...

    Replacing a chimney liner

So, just a quick update on this thread. I didn't swap out my chimney liner after all. Got the missus' grandfather to come up and take a look at it. He's one of those jack of all trades. Took a look up through the chimney, pointed out to me where the break was and how easy it would be to get...

    Replacing a chimney liner

Has anyone ever been involved in replacing an existing clay liner in a chimney? We were cleaning out our chimney this weekend and a big chunk of the liner fell down into the cleanout. Just had a guy come by and he quated me $1400 to remove the liner and replace it with a new stainless steel...

    Container h

I don't think you would necessarily need a foundation for these container houses. My understanding is they are designed to only require supports at the corners, so a pillar system would likely work very well for them. Not 100% on that, but would mean pretty big savings.

    Rats

Wow, that's a pretty big yard :-). From reading on other posts, I think what people generally do is dig a 6" x 6" wide trench all around the outside perimeter of the yard, then lay the hardware cloth inside that and bury it rather than lining the entire floor of the pen with the stuff. We had...

    Rats

Hi, this is our first year with birds and we were also having some issues with rats earlier this fall. Like you, we didn't have hardware cloth buried, in the ground, so they had pretty easy access to our birds. We lost three ducklings before finally getting it straightened out. This is what...

Can you feed ducks bacon grease?

The other morning I made bacon, and while cleaning up I started to wonder if I could give the bacon fat to the ducks. Has anyone ever done that?

    Sneaky Rodent

That sounds like a rat :-). I wouldn't have too much of a issue with killing it if I were you. Get a couple of snap traps an put under your dishwasher. The best bait I've used is these cheap peanut butter flavored taffy candies. We melt them in the microwave and then press them onto the...

    Any hikers out there?

I just took a quick Google Earth tour of your area - nice country down that way. Looks a lot like New Brunswick to me. Are there many apple trees? I worked in Sussex, NB for a couple of years, and one thing I used to love about it was all the apple trees. Over here if you wanna munch on wild...

    Container h

I assume you're talking about sea cans, is this correct? I've heard of people doing this but haven't actually had any experience myself. Attached is a link I came across regarding it. Pretty cool idea I must say, especially if you can get one cheap. That being said, in my mind it still seems...

    Any hikers out there?

Yeah, that makes sense Thanks for the info - looks like it would be a tourist trap for sure :-) Makes sense regarding carrying items - looks like they give leeway for responsible use. I think its something similar over here, but am not sure.
