I'm guessing the other egg is dead. I believe it was the first to pip and it has been about 40 hours now with no progress. The one that hatched is doing great.

Our first incubator died on day 20 and we had only one chicken hatch. She is now a house chicken. We don't notice the dander from just one chicken but I would recommend diapers!

To Heat or not Heat my Coop

I've never seen a wild bird nest with supplemental heat. If you add heat and for some reason your power goes out your chickens will die. Don't get them acclimated to a false climate.

Not to continue off subject but if you use the ice water or boiling water described in this link you have calibrated your thermometer for those temperatures. 100 degrees is almost in the middle of those temperatures and thermometers can be way off even if they are calibrated using those methods...

There's a thread somewhere that tells you how to calibrate your incubator temperature. I don't know where it is but basically you just take modeling clay (I used silly putty). Put it in your incubator for about 8 hours or more then take an under the tongue thermometer you can buy at Walmart for...

I'm in! I've got 2 incubators now. One is running with 10 bantam cochin/silkie mix eggs due on the 21st and I plan to add more later on the 11th. I will run the second incubator as a hatcher and really get myself into trouble.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Your probably running a little on the hot side if you see a lot of early arrivals. Your incubator might say 99.5 but it could be off. Have you calibrated your temps? If most hatch before day 21 I would adjust the temp down .5 for the next hatch and see what happens. There is nothing like...

    Mealworms died...

Make sure you keep them above 20 degrees C or 70 degrees F. They really slow down in lower temps.

4 of 13 hatched so far for me. I love seeing all the baby chicks! (sorry for the dark pics. I'm out of town and that's the best my wife could get)

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Well the 2 eggs of mine I put in there hatched a day early. Didn't really care if these two hatched... Waiting for the BCM eggs to hatch. Tomorrow is day 21. Black Friday Copper Marans... **crossing fingers** The black one above is a bantam cochin/silkie mix and the yellow is a buff...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Yes I'm happy with the numbers. I have two separate Ebay auctions in my incubator. One with 8 eggs are 100% growing and the other Ebay auction of 15 is at 53%.
