Buy a wire tier/cutter like this and some wire and twit tie the loops.

I can't find pellets at my local Fleet farm or Tractor supply. Just crumbles. I guess I should try a feed mill.

I aggree with Patandchickens statment -
a) unless they are meat birds, your chickens will be perfectly well able to fly over a 4' fence, and
b) there is absolutely no way to predict whether or not they will choose to do so on any given day (or ever).

I did the same thing with my two Labs.
As pups I put them on leash and sat with the chickens.
Pretty much anything they did shy of ignoring them got them a correction in the form of little yank of the leash.
At that time I would very sternly tell them "those are my chickens." Then I took them...

Well if you have a shotgun just get some #6 birdshot and stand off about 20 yards, then have some one open the trap. When it comes out to run away you should be able to hit it. The diameter of your pattern will depend on the choke tube in the barrel, but it should be several inches at distance.
