Silkie's feet are swollen, toenails are disappearing

I have two three year old silkies. One of them has rapidly developed an ugly foot issue, her toes have swollen up and effectively dropped off. She has lost most of her claws. In every other way she is in good health. Still hobbles around, great appetite, laying occasionally, goes broody, just...

A bird question...just not about chickens...

I'm thinking mockingbird. It's next to the front entrance to a daycare. Unfortunately seems to be abandoned.

A bird question...just not about chickens...

I found a huge messy nest today in some fairly low bushes, similar to a pigeon's nest but with more depth. It had one greenish/blue speckled egg in it, a little smaller than a silkie's. Any idea what type of bird would have laid this? In Connecticut.

What are the symptoms of poisoning in a chicken/rooster?

We came home from work today to find our rooster dead. We have a neighbor who HATES him with a passion, we suspect she may have poisoned him as he has no visible injuries. He was a big healthy nine month old boy in his prime. We found him on his back with his neck twisted almost in an S bend...

New neighbors... do I have a right to be angry? HELP!

I'm sorry you are having to put up with such inconsiderate behavior. I'm sure you can file a complaint about the amount of noise they will be making, if nothing else. Go to your local town hall and find someone sympathetic to talk to. It really stinks having bad neighbors.

My husband left me and the kids.

Hi, how was your day today? I replied earlier to your post and wanted to reinforce something that another poster mentioned. Please tell your kids REPEATEDLY it is not their fault! My parents fought constantly over my dad's drinking when I was around 8 years old, and I remember laying in bed at...

My husband left me and the kids.

Right now it's not going to seem like it, but one day soon you'll realize that your life is finally peaceful. You've been unhappy for a long time yourself on some level. Alcoholics are no fun to live with whatsoever. My own father is a drinker and becomes a bully and picks on me in particular...

Tell me something GOOD that happened to you today.

I got kisses from my kids and my cats when I woke up this morning! Yesterday I rescued a duck from horrible conditions, so two good days in a row.

Just curious who else is living super frugal

Did someone already post the 'recipe' in this thread? I haven't had time to read the entire thing. My husband and I have both been unemployed this year. We shop once a month then try to only get absolute basics like milk afterwards. We shop at ALDI, so much cheaper than anywhere else near us...

    I've rescues a debeaked hen-now what?

I have had several rescued battery hens that were debeaked. All had no problems eating whatsoever. My current girl has absolutely no top beak whatsoever, partial lower beak, and does just fine. Chest bumps everything to make up for it, lol. She is certainly feisty, but was totally traumatized at...

CT Peeps Get-Together DERBY CT Oct. 1 11am-4pm

I replied in another thread, but we will be there with bells on! Possibly with a young silkie rooster (who still doesn't crow loudly....yet), blue patridge from Beth's Hattrick bloodlines. He has a crossed beak, he's very affectionate, and a real snuggle bunny. We are totally on board with the...

    Connecticut!

We were the ones hanging around waiting for the chicks to hatch for half an hour, my daughter was fascinated with 'milking the cow'! We would love to come on the first, it is my six (soon to be seven) year old daughter's birthday that day, and we have a party organized for the afternoon. We will...
