    My first coop

Finished all the coop trim today. I think they enjoyed hanging out with me. I also added the curtain on the door, a latch to hold it open and made the pooper scooper. Next: work on run.

No prep. Just paint. Went on in one, easy coat. Dried quickly too.

@aart. This: It covered easily with a 3" roller. But definitely wear a glove when you do it. Lol I thought about trying to play this into a Halloween costume somehow.

    My first coop

Major update. Chickens in the coop. It's not 100% done and I haven't completed the run but moved them in before the blizzard of 2014 last Saturday lol. (Light dusting of snow, no accumulation) Pop door painted Painted the hardware cloth black. A world of difference. In this pic the right...

    My first coop

Bag of sweet PDZ added (easiest part of this thing so far!) and the first taste of the accent colors started. Both the door and shutters are the same color. The door is just slightly more dry. It will be a deep reddish/burgundy color.

    My first coop

Door painted (interior and edges), storage cover done, poop board, supports and roost in. Here's a pic of the nest box roof (lowest siding board removed temporarily and sun shining through) And unfortunately when scraping learned the front of the door is fairly rotten. Oh well...

    My first coop

Enjoyed a nice high 70's - mid 80's weekend! Cut, painted and installed the cover on the interior of the storage/nest box portion. Taped out the interior and realized the blackjack wasn't going to seal the 1/4 inch gaps in the floor. So I skimmed over it with 1/8 inch hardboard. Then painted the...

@LPeaslee THANK YOU! That is awesome of you to take the time and do that. I wish there was a donate feature on here! I have to finish my coop before this step, but will post back here when I get to use this information (which I will definitely do). All the best to you!

Also, it's not specifically listed but this bag has a good portion of what appears to be sunflower seeds throughout.

Sorry for the quality. This is the best one I could take.

Yes it is a mix. I'll get a shot of the contents. That is a great price if that's true. But if have to make that trip while I'm already going. Gas would eat the difference otherwise from Anderson, where I live.

Really nice build overall! Do you happen to have any sketches of the schematics for that solar setup? I really like that you added voltage indicators and kill switches. Also, what type of battery(ies) are you running/type of lights (led 12v?) and how long are you getting without dropping more...

I have Williams layer mash in 50lb bags. Someone gave me a few bags before they moved. My girls love it. I called and spoke with the lady there and she was really nice. She said her son runs it now and I plan to make a trip at least once to get a few more bags when I run low. I don't know about...

    My first coop

Today I painted more trim (no pics). Door is up and door stop cut and mounted. Also mounted the nest door and started framing the end of the run.

Thanks! My concern is them having enough room to dismount safely without smacking the wall. I'll entertain the ramp option (I have enough materials) but don't want it to take up too much of my time of moving them in.

Haha. I can picture them doing that. Sorry about the leak though. Hope you got it sorted.

    My first coop

Not a lot of progress this last week. Lots of "life" happening. But here's what's done. I finished painting the exterior and added the ventilation panels. I'm not sure how much I'll need so I cut the hardware cloth long and covered it back up. Thinking on this is that if I need more, all I...

    My first coop

Well I thought it would be Tuesday before any real progress was made. I hate it when I'm right. >:| I did get a barrel to start building the waterer and the PVC plumbing pieces and nipples. I also hauled a trailer load of pallets home. I'm thinking picket fence. (Around the garden. Yeah a...
