    quail cage in chicken coop

I keep my quail in with my chickens, never had a problem but I only buy from trusted friends and I (and they) have closed stock so less chance of infection taking hold. My rooster and my quail rooster have crow-offs, it's funny as hell

New to ducks, lings keep dying!

Hmm. Wouldn't the other birds also get it? I have chickens and they die if you look at them funny so just the ducklings dying seems odd for a virus. Also this has been the best year for no mosquitos I've ever had at the farm, hornets everywhere but hardly any mozzies

    New Duck Owner

yes whenever people ask me the horse sized duck or 50 duck sized horses question I go with duck sized horses, a giant duck would be terrifying. And we aren't trying to put you off, ducks are amazing and some people even keep them indoors But eyes open is a good way to go into duck keeping

New to ducks, lings keep dying!

Thank you I keep them outside off heat because it's warm here 25+ The older duck has nothing wrong with her other than a badly broken badly set leg, but if you think she should be separate then I can do that they just seem so sad the two of them alone and bored. I change their bedding daily and...

New to ducks, lings keep dying!

Hmm, thanks. I thought it was just cedar that was toxic, I've used pine shavings for my chickens for years with no issues, it's a low dust one. I can't do straw or hay because it doesn't decompose here, and I can't compost because I live in a forest so bears come every time I try But I will...

help! losing a hen a day,

It cleared up with penicillin and local vet and the Internet insist it can't have been mg. vet wants a cadaver to test to be sure but I'm not killing a healthy chicken. I've treated the baby chicks because it might have been them that bought it into the house. Although they had no symptoms...

help! losing a hen a day,

Update. Thank you all for your posts. I've treated with antibiotic and they are all well again. It responded to penicillin which mg does not so I can rules that out. I have 9 healthy happy chickens now and they are even starting to pay again. Although I'm throwing out their eggs for another week
