Why is my hen sitting on nothing??

Thanks for all the info! She finally stopped sitting but hasn't laid any eggs yet and it's been well over two weeks. I had someone tell me it could take six weeks for her to lay again?? We added another girl (we think) to our brood but she is just four months old. I forget how old my other was...

Why is my hen sitting on nothing??

Thanks for the warm welcome!!! I got a new silkie the other day from the animal swap. The two that I have now roam my back yard and hang out under the deck. The new girl (I think it's a girl) has found a place to bed down at night so I pick her up and put her in the coop with the others. When...

Why is my hen sitting on nothing??

Hello all. I have two silkies, one hen one roo. My hen started laying eggs about a month ago. One here and there. I have been able to tell when she goes in to lay. She will go in her box and sit for a while. When she comes out I have an egg. Well today I noticed she went in the coop but not the...

Actually with the second picture, the one on the left looks more like a pullet. So, never mind! I don't have a clue! Lol

    Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Don't quote me, but looking at your and comparing to mine, the one on the right standing looks like a pullet. The one on the lefts crest looks like a rooster. I only have two silkies so that just by best guess.

I want to have baby chicks but I'm not sure how to go about getting there. I marked the two eggs and put them in...

I am not sure if I am in the right place for this question, but I have two silkies. One pullet and one roo. Talking with someone in the feed store yesterday, he mentioned tha I need at least 3-4 more girls or else the roo will take a toll on my one girl. Is this the case or will they be fine...

    What keeps hawks away?

I just had a hawk attack my silkie pullet the other day. Thankfully my roo let out this awful warning so we went running out to find the hawk hovered over my lil girl. We threw something at it and it flew off. She was shaken but mostly unhurt. My question is, would something like wind chimes...

    silkie sexing

Yes!! Lol. I was thinking so. How do I know she is squating? I have heard that you can put a golf ball in their bed and it will trick them into laying.... Does that work?

    silkie sexing

Hope this pic works... These are my silkies. I am sure the white one is a boy, he crows and the grey one a girl but they are about 21 weeks old now and no eggs yet. Is this normal?

    silkie sexing

I have two silkies that are about 21 weeks old. I know one is a boy, he is crowing. The other I am 99% sure is a girl, but no eggs yet. Should she be laying already?
