Introducing new chicks to a year old flock

My two new chicks (about 8 weeks old) have been staying in a cage in the coop for about 2 weeks now. I had it set up like a panic room for them, but found out that one of my older hens is aggressive and can still get in and she chases and bullies the youngers. For today I have locked the big...

    Americauna Rooster??

My chicks are supposed to be female Americaunas, about 6 weeks old now. One is much bigger than the other, and I get a sneaking suspicion that Penelope is a boy. She is the one on the left, the one on the right is Lily. Pictures following this one are of Penelope - anyone see features that...

Chickens not laying eggs in nesting boxes :-(

I thought my chickens had stopped laying eggs, only to find out now, a week later, that they have created a new laying nest under a bush. It is full of a week's worth of eggs! How do I tell if they are good or not? I think I will remove the nest and place some of the eggs back in the nesting...

This is my first winter having backyard chickens here in San Diego. Do I need to worry about any type of weather-proofing, i.e. cold weather precautions for my 3 hens? Thanks!

I am really happy to have found such a...

Hello - I'm new with a transgendered chicken

Regarding the 20 posts before I can list my roo for free, I could not find the definition of "posts" and was wondering if this meant "new posts" in the forums, or me posting responses, or folks posting responses to my original posts? Thanks for the help!

post your chicken coop pictures here!

We bought a small coop from Costco for our two chickens, and added a run under the trampoline. They can walk directly from the coop to the run area anytime they like - it is all enclosed and safe for them. During our at home time they roam the yard and eat bugs and hang out!
