    Buff orpington and...buff orpington?

Never heard of those, but I like what I'm reading so far, and she looks like one!

    Buff orpington and...buff orpington?

We love EEs, so we wouldn't mind! And even though this means only one buff, we have 3 lavender orpingtons, so plenty of orps!

    Buff orpington and...buff orpington?

Possible. RSL markings are similar. Haven't had one before.

    Buff orpington and...buff orpington?

So we got this bunch of chickens a while back, and we were told these two were buff orpingtons. The one is clearly a buff, but the other doesn't look like a buff to me. Am I wrong? What breed might she be?

We plan to roof part of it. The last coop was off the ground so they could run under it, but we can't do that with this coop.

We had chickens for several years a while back, we just gave up after they kept getting wiped out by bears. New location means we try again. But when we were building the first coop, I looked up what predators go after chickens in our area. I quickly realized we had seen, heard, or caught on...

Nah, we have ALL the predators around here lol. Foxes, bears, hawks, etc. We will make it as good as we can, but I'm not chancing it. The coop will be Fort Knox, but the run is harder. Hardware cloth, deer netting, and electric fence, but that will only do so much.

The idea is to let them out in the run every day. Leaving the coop open so they can access food, water, and shelter. And having available water and shelter in the run as well.

You can have less room per chicken if you have a large run, which we will. We had a 6x6 coop for a flock of over 20 birds at our old house. They were fine until the bears came for dinner.

Our coop is 8x8 and our run will be HUGE. They'll be running between 2 garden areas for pest control lol, and the area will be about 8x100. And plenty of room for more run; we have almost 5 acres. And we love EEs, we had one a few years ago and she was a sweetheart!

Sooooo...I went a little crazy. My hubby was at Rural King for non chicken reasons and I asked him to go over and see what breeds they had. Which resulted in me and the kids trekking over to get chicks. The plan WAS to only get 6, but the chicken math was STRONG tonight! Hubby gave me the nod to...

Gold laced. And they weren't bullies to the other girls, they would peck our feet. Every time any of us went in the run, they went after our feet.

Thank you all for your replies!! I have experience with a few of the mentioned breeds, from previous flocks, I just wanted some feedback on breeds I haven't had before. The store I'll be going to is a Rural King, as there aren't any other stores selling chicks around here and I'm not ordering...

I'm finally getting more chicks! I had a flock years ago and it got wiped out by bears. We moved to a new place and we're getting everything set up next week for a huge chicken coop! I'm over the moon to have chickens again. Unfortunately, due to availability, I may not be able to get exactly...

    Is this is a brahma?

My daughter is thrilled. She loves Easter Eggers, so we got two with her in mind. She named one Supergirl (another obsession lol). I just told her what you think and she says it's Supergirl because bears don't have kryptonite!! Thank you!!

    Is this is a brahma?

I was thinking that maybe because of her head, but I was almost 100% sure those died!

    Is this is a brahma?

We have this lovely lady running around with our barred rocks. I either know or have looked up what all of our chicks would've looked like (all of this year's chicks but this one were lost to sickness or predator), and she doesn't look like any of them. The closest is a brahma, but she doesn't...

will eating a dead copperhead kill chickens?

This may be the wrong forum but here goes. My husband killed a 2 foot copperhead and was too tired afterward to deal with body and left it on a concrete thing in our yard overnight. Our chickens were doing fine at that time, he checked on them for the night, etc. This evening, the snake body...

    Roo or hen? Australorps

They are supposed to be the same age. Never know with feed stores sometimes. They were the same stage development when I bought them around a week old.
