Angst- to clip wings or not?

From what I understand there are two types of "clipping a wing" one type is painful and permanently stops a bird from flying dont quote me but I think this type is called pinioning. (feel free to correct me) This is where part of the actual wing is removed. The other type is pain-free and...

    Coop design for 100 chickens

What kind of budget did you have in mind? Will your chickens be for egg production, or meat? Add any additional ideas you might want to incorporate. If your looking for just a very basic coop you could simply build a 20x20 shed type building and put in a door for them with a couple roosts. what...

    Solar powered Coop

Yeah it seems like a good idea to me, I'd rather be a little more expensive up front and avoid nasty surprises on my power bill. Just in the planning stages at the moment.I may begin this year but next spring is most likely. But what I'd really like to know is how many kilo-watts I'd need to get...

    Solar powered Coop

Awesome thanks for the links. I like the idea of keeping the current as a back up, although down the road I'd like to convert my whole property to solar power, but I know thats big money.

    Solar powered Coop

Yeah, I know heat would take a lot of power I'm mostly just curious about what kind of system would be required to have it. I wouldnt go buy a $15000 system for my chicken coop But I would like to know if thats what I would need.

Sealing small holes and gaps in the Coop

Well I don't have chickens yet but I think I have a good idea or you! Have you heard of wood dough? You can make it by mixing fine sawdust with wood glue then cram the mixture into the holes, really glob it on to ensure a good seal, then once it has dried use fine grit sand paper to sand it...
