She's the only one in the flock that has symptoms, the other chickens (silke rooster, 3 silkie hens, 2 standard sized hens) have been symptom free. They have been handling the cold well, and laying frequently. This particular silkie I've noticed, would be the first chicken to start panting in...
My silkie hen has been sneezing along with very slight facial swelling, and occasional subtle gasping. I suspect cmd, as she's had this come and go her whole life with no issues, however with the weather being extremely cold and her molt, she was definitely struggling. She's now living in the...
I have quite a few eggs from my buff girl, so it will be interesting to see if there are variations between chicks! Like maybe some will be more spotted with blue feathers, etc. I will post pics once they hatch. Hopefully they will have very sweet dispositions like both their parents :). For...
I'm planning on hatching eggs from my silkies, and I'm wondering what the outcome of the coloring would be. I have one splash rooster, and two hens (one buff and one splash). Anybody here have buffxsplash offspring and what do they look like. Also what would a splashxsplash look like? Would they...
Thanks everyone for your replies! I will try to get bantam chicks if possible since they are my first choice, but if there are only standards available I will still get a couple (I'm thinking cochins, sussex). If they decide to peck the silkies, then I can always separate them if needed :)

My silkie chicks are currently 6 days old, and I'm wondering when I can start giving them treats. Currently they are very happy with their chick feed mashed up with water as a treat. And I'm going to start a mealworm colony soon, but I'll wait a while before I give them those. Is 6 days old...
yesterday evening, I noticed that the chick's membrane was still intact while the outer shell was chipping away. I decided to intervene, and I'm glad I did. The membrane was leathery hard and there was no blood vessels, so the chick was obviously ready to come out. It's doing great, and another...
Looks like there is progress! No zip yet, but the chick was able to shift its weight, and facing upwards more, and it has made a bigger hole and is also more energetic, so I guess it's a good sign. The chick's sibling is good motivation as well, it's chipring away. I'll leave the egg be for today.
