Hurray! Dispite being three days late, all three ducks are very happy. Shelly (living up to her name) has a bit of shell stuck to her so I'll need to research the best way to remove it. All three were semi-assisted hatches and they now are very healthy with lots of energy after getting some food...
You'll know better when it feathers, most ducklings look like that at that age. It isn't going to be a white duck like an Aylesbury or White Campbell but other than that I don't know
Don't let this put you off having ducks! Incubate some, it was an innocent error that the duck was taken, the issue with your coop seems to have been a one-off
As I thought, didn't get much sleep haha, checked the incubator nearly once every hour. At 4am the second one finally freed itself from its shell. It's now day 31. Both ducklings are hyper with activity, seem to be actively encouraging their brother/sister.
The one successful duckling is snuggling up to his unhatched counterparts. It's time for bed, another sleepless night I think. Slow movement in the two remaining eggs, I've gently removed some shell to encourage them but that's all I want to do, gonna keep incubator shut as much as possible...
I don't know about Ohio but my last ducks were taken by a fox, hardly a trace but that's Ireland, I don't even know if you have foxes in America haha
This has been largely unhelpful but I felt compelled to reply
Here's the update, 3/4 of the way through day 30 of a 28 day hatch.
A lot happier with progress, just back from school and the wee lads have been good fighters. Is this discolouration of the membrane normal?
Now day 30. All eggs have pipped. Soft occasional chirping. No progress in a few hours, when do I assist? One egg pipped over 12 hours ago, the others followed suit during the night (I live in the UK so it's early morning now).
UPDATE
Egg 2 out of 3 finally pipped! I guess it's a schoolboy error of being too concerned too soon (however if I was more than 24 hours late for something I'd probably be in trouble). I do have another question, to anyone really. Would it be too risky to move the incubator? Currently it's in...
Hi there, I'm Jordan, I'm 16, this is my first time on Backyard Chickens and this is also my first time hatching campbell ducks (although I have kept ducks before). I bought 12 (two separate batches from different sellers with the hope to breed them naturally) eggs but unfortunately one entire...
