Hmmm..great link but the picture doesn't look like her eye. Her eye was completely clouded over like milk was in it. Weird. The other eye looks clear, but now I swear she can't see out of it. I was rubbing her chin and smoothing her "beard" down to get it away from her eyes and I could have...
I don't know what has happened to cause this, but my 3 year old Belgian Bearded Duccle has definitely gone blind. First it was only the right eye (it had turned a milky white and she obviously could not see out of it, by the way she acted) and now, though it hasn't turned milky, she seems to not...
JJThink, I am pretty sure I checked her over pretty good, and she is back to seemingly normal now, so I think the only marks are the ones I saw. No broken skin, just missing feathers. The beak had a small wound, but it's better now too. They haven't came out of the coop since..poor girls. And...
Yesterday a hawk (red tail?) took one of my Belgian Bearded Duccles! I heard a ruckus while I was cleaning and looked out to see it flying across the yard with the poor girl screaming! My husband yelled at it and ran out. I opened the window from the room I was in and told him where I saw the...
Is that right? I never thought about food poisoning!? Though I am very careful not to give them things with excess salt (no salt on rice or veggies in our house, unless it's at the plate. Usually they do eat all scraps put out, but I'll have to keep watch for left over scraps. The only thing...
Thanks everyone. I'm now adding the suppliments to the girls feed once a day in the oatmeal and mixing it in. They have always gotten table scraps (leftovers), fruit, bread, rice, eggs, meat..etc. I hope this never happens again.
so, are you saying to mix the vitamins intended for the waterer into the oatmeal in the amount recommended for the waterer and then just mix the oatmeal into their feed? I could do that!
Uncooked oatmeal?
dlhunicorn, that's excellent advice and I'm sure the rest can benefit from vitamins as well. The main reason I've never even looked into it is because we have an automatic waterer and it's impossible to add suppliments to it so I'd have to add an additional waterer (I could do this). Is there a...
dlhunicorn, that is a LOT of info on twisted/limber neck. I have never seen it with my chickens before and at first (at least a month ago), when she first started leaning her head, I didn't think a lot of it, because upon watching her, she'd correct it an go about her chicken business. She just...
Poison Ivy, that IS a great resource! And I agree with you Cutestchickenfarmer, it does sound just like Botulism. She now seems to be almost paralized in the legs and doesn't seem to move her wings either, so I'm not sure about them? She can untwist her neck long enough to peck at food for a few...
I don't think she's going to make it. She's much worse the last couple of days. She doesn't get up anymore, but she eagerly eats when I bring her inside and give her food. Then she goes back to sitting there. I don't know what to do for her and I can't even think about the humane thing to do....
I just gave her a mixture of boiled egg (mashed) and fish oil capsule (I don't have any plain e) and heavy cream. She gobbled it up. I tried to put a little water down in her too, then put her back in the pen in a nice sunny spot. I hope she perks up a bit later...
Thanks Becky. I think the strangest thing is that it just started out of the blue. Remember, she's over a year old and well past babyhood. I just don't get it. She seems to be getting worse. I'm going to give her some of the high protein foods and some vitamin e and see if I can perk her up. She...
Ruth, thank you so much for the info in the emails. I see the difference between mine and yours now. But I'd like to try the vitamins and see if that helps at all. And massage.
Coyotemagic, it's only been several weeks since she started with the twisted neck. It seems to go almost all the way...
What can be wrong with my chicken? Her neck is twisted and she has been like this (off and on-sometimes she gets it right and walks around with the others just fine) for weeks now. She seems strong (except sleeps alot) and perks up for corn. No nasal discharge or runny eyes or sneezing or any...
