Welcome! glad to hear you're doing up an old coop. You'll have to post some pics! Live rural outside of Brandenburg here. My small flock is growing quick this spring. From 10 to about 40! :)
Got an age old question BYC peeps. Which rooster to choose for flock protection? Live in Northwestern Ky (southwest of Louisville), will have about 40 hens in the spring, an enclosed (not covered run), and about 1.5 acres of optional free range during the daylight hours. Okay go!
Mix of hens...
Unfortunately this thread has become pretty slow, so answers and resources are hard to get on here. I follow the Indiana BYCers thread and love it! Good luck with the Buckeye hunt, haven't heard much about them.
I love mine! Eight 2 week olds under it now. They go between it and running around the coop all day. It's just like having a momma hen in there that stands real still And no fire hazard or hot lamp smell. This is nice since they're in the laundry room!
Would love to help! New to chickens, and live right across the river in KY, but I have loved the info and pics and friendships here! So anything I can do I'm in! :)
Anyone reading this thread and looking at Papa Brooder chicks, they are beautiful and healthy and he is amazingly wonderful to work with and order from!
Thanks, I couldn't pass up these two cuties :) Red and white sex links (someone's Easter chicks got to be to big to handle. The red is super sweet and follows me everywhere! The white one is still real skiddish.
It's expensive here too. Straw comes from wheat, it's the shafts left after they thresh the seeds off the tops. Wheat isn't selling well this year, I think the farmers may be trying to compensate by increasing straw prices. :(
