Ok, been doing that two days. They seem to be getting better. At least they aren't honking/coughing anymore and I saw them finally eat something! Someone told me to try local honey and minced garlic. I think that has helped too!
I might have to pick that up for my other hens. We killed the rooster this morning. Both his eyes were sealed shut and bulging. He looked in so much pain :( it just all happened so fast! Now some of my younger hens are sneezing and coughing/honking :( this is so hard to watch! I got vetrx to try...
Mine too! Well besides my best old rooster (who we killed today because his eyes were so swollen. And covered in pus) but otherwise it's just my young hens showing signs. I picked up Vetrx, bit it's so hard to give them! I really wanna try to get some in their mouth but they just run! Hopefully...
Sounds like what am dealing with except my rooster and one hen has a swollen eye with discharge. Hoping we both can gets some answers. It's been very humid here as well! How long have you been using the the Vetrx? I was gonna pick some up tomorrow. Do you think it's been helping?
My rooster was fine last night but when we came home this afternoom, his one eye was completely covered with pus and swollen shut. I can see it bulging up is it so swollen. He is eating and walking around find (besides not being able to see). I am also worried because when I closed them up...
Update! I put her back with the other chickens this afternoon and she was looking good (tail was up and she was walking around with the others). I check on her after an hour and she was back laying down and her one ear was bleeding! I brought her back in the house and cleaned her ear. Any ideas...
Me too, thanks for your input!! She looked better this morning. All poop is normal and she's eating. Keeping her in during the day and then gonna try her outside again.
Not that I know of, but they were out in the yard doing who knows what. And she seemed to be angry at our young rooster. She'd peck him when he came near. She was very alert and trying to get out of the cage so we just tried to put her in the coop again. All the other hens sit on a 3rd level...
Everyday when I come home from work I let my chickens out of their pen to roam freely in our large backyard. After an hour or so I went to feed them in the coop and noticed one was missing. After searching for awhile my husband found her fairly far away laying under a tree. We brought her back...
Hmm don't think we have anything to report this too in the US, (then again, I AM new to this lol) From the information given, I feel like this may be it! And that would be a relief, since I dont want any carriers of anything! I will do some research in Newcastlea to try to save my babies! :)...
They didn't have the twisted heads and necks, but the rest is pretty accurate. I actually thought 2 have gape worms because of how they were breathing. They would stretch out there neck and open their beck wide everytime they breathed. Is that part of it?
I almost feel as if there are maybe 3 different diseases going on here! I wish I could go back and not buy these hens in the first place! I should have trusted my gut! :( Marek's is my biggest fear. Isn't that a death sentence to all chickens, and lasts for years??
Thank you ten chicks for the info! We are planning to get some chicks in spring. Do most hatcheries vaccinate for mg? As much as I know culling would help, and I really want this to end, I just can't bear to kill my rooster!
Well it started with their wings being droupy and then slowly started stumbling and couldn't walk. They were both super alert and normal otherwise, just couldn't walk. They looked like they doing the splits when they tried to stand up. It was so sad :( it is just so weird, there would never be...
I see! Sounds terrible! :( we had used duramycine (only thing we could find at fleet farm) when the rooster was sick, but it didn't help any if the hens. Does this not help at all? Does mg also cause the paralysis that I saw in two on the hens?
