    I love the vics idea but I understand worrying about putting it on their skin I would put a layer of regular petroleum jelly on first to protect their skin then the vics it may help to keep it off direct contact

    Did you give them any antibiotics in chick phase?some of the antibiotics they give for infection can sterilize your chickens if not in the right dosage. Some of the treatments put in their water can be easily misunderstood on dosage.

    I was reading if the chickens are not getting enough protein they will eat each other's feathers. If there is no obvious pecking from the rooster maybe up the protein to see if that helps. I used a couple of handfuls of dried meal worms once or twice a week.

    Yomama, one thing I do to help the girls get more liquids is I warm up some nibblet corn with the juice or added water. They eat the sopping wet kernels and then drink the juice left in the trough. The liquid is slightly warm so it goes down easy and warms them a bit.
