    Earwigs EVERYWHERE!!!

I have been having this problem too. My girls used to eat them. In fact, when I used to find them in my worm composter, I would feed them as a treat. Now, they might peck at one, but then spit it out like it is distasteful. I have tried DE and seven dust (didn't want to use it but I was at my...

When do chickens start laying eggs?

I have three Polish hens and I just had one of mine lay their first egg. She is 4 months + 10 days old. So, I guess I am quite lucky. I didn't know what people meant by "squatting" but I did not her lifting up her wings slightly as I petted her recently. She was also a bit more squawky. I have...

Polish chicken crest feather loss, mainly on Rooster

I have 4 polish chickens. They are all about 8 weeks old. Two of them have absolutely no problems with their crests- big and beautiful. One of them is quite bad and has been getting progressively worse for about 2 weeks. Initially I thought it was just molting and then I figured to be safe I...

Polish chicken. I think I might be able to say this is a rooster. 4 weeks and 4 days - your opinion?

Hi chicken friends. I am trying to weed out my roosters as I can. Eventually I will want to end up with only hens (I live in the city). I feel like I am pretty confident on 1 of the 6 right now. Below are 5 pictures of two of the chicks. Pictures 1, 2, and 5 are the one I think is a rooster...

    Electric fence- is this adequate?

My husband has been working to secure our chickens. I still think we need another mid-level row of wire as well as wire on the top. My husband thinks it's perfectly adequate as is. We figured there is only one real way to know who is right...and that's by asking ya'll. Our main threats would be...

I go to work and all I do is think about my baby chicks at home....is this normal??? lol

It was about $100 from Walmart. Super simple to set up too. There is a more expensive model for $150, but I didnt see the perks of it.

I go to work and all I do is think about my baby chicks at home....is this normal??? lol

I have the same problem. I made it worse by buying a dropcam. It is a camera that hooks up to your wifi in your home. It allows you to stream a constant video feed to your smartphone. I love it.

    Learning prior to getting chickens

Hi all. I am totally new to the world of chickens. My husband had chickens as a child. I plan to read up on what they need, the type to get, and all the equipment and start purchasing those items in the next couple of months. Ideally, we will purchase our first chicks in the Spring. Looking...
