i too am wondering witch hens are laying and witch hens are just free loading....
I did think of doing some sort of color marking but then i thought well before i go messing around with chicken butts

all the hard work pays off. light on a timer giving them only 8 hours of darkness and a ceramic heater keeping them from getting too chilled. PVC pipe feeder and water-er. everything paid off and we have gotten 2 eggs now !!!! one yesterday and...

i lengthened the opening so they had a little more "runway" it seems to be helping and its only been one day with with the new hens and coop... im sure they will "Learn" how to get in and out better as time goes on.

Ok so I have a question about chicken behavior...
like a cow will walk up a ramp but won't walk down a ramp do chickens have theses type of quirks?
i built a coop with a ramp but my coops access hole isn't on the side of the coop but on the bottom so my ramp goes from the ground to the bottom...

i thought DE was pretty good for this type of thing... i wonder if this came on because you stopped using DE ???
we just finnished a small coop and run and hope to be having eggs after our girls get acclimated to the place and start getting more light. we have a light in there coop all night long. not only for the artificial light factor but a little heat too
