Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

"Chickens 2.0" is a good, simple slogan that gets across the point of what I'm trying to do.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I already have a name for my hatchery but maybe Hatchery 2.0 is a better idea.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Speckled Sussex as well. Possibly Blue Andalusians. Blue Andalusions are one of my favorite LF bird as long as they are good quality.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Salmon faverolles are a great idea. In my showing days I some goliath Jersey Giants. I might only be able to fit half as many as the other breeds in a pen if I get higher quality ones.

Wyandottes! Blue laced red, golden laced, and silver laced.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I should have some of the top laying breeds to compete with large hatcheries, although I don't enjoy them as much as bantams. The bantams will come later. BBS Ameraucana, Wheaten Ameraucana, White ameraucanas, EEs, barred rock, RIR(not production reds!), leghorns of a few colors, australorps...

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Thank you, all I wanted was for this thread to get back on its original track.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I could quarantine for a long time, but it's still so risky that they may be carriers. I'm not saying it isn't the best way hypothetically, I just don't want to risk it.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I do not want to bring in any adult birds because of disease. I have battled roup for years with my previous flocks as a result of bringing in new chickens and taking them to shows. I will be buying SQ hatching eggs from trusted breeders and using the top males I hatch.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I've learned how to vent sex from my former mentor. He bred for 60 years, and was known nationally in the show scene.

What happened to the Sussex craze?

I haven't been active in years since I sold my birds, but when I left there was a huge craze for light Sussex and lavender Sussex. Did this die down? Does anyone still have them?

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I want to produce bantam Olive Eggers. I think there will be a good market for those.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Years ago my plan was to have a strictly show quality hatchery, but that would take decades to build. That is my end goal. But the investment of the building I am going to build, the incubators, and equipment couldn't be supported by a SQ hatchery at first. Partially because I can't get the...

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

I will have artificial lighting for the birds to lay virtually every day year round, or to maximize it to the highest extent. And yes, I will have extra males. I do plan to sell them at very low prices online. I also have a few connections in the area of people that raise meat chickens all...

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

If no bantams, the issue is choosing the best 36 breeds/varieties of LF. That will be difficult when there are 100's of breeds and dozens of colors of most breeds. Stressful just thinking about it. Lol

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Yes, I agree that the profit per bird will be less with bantams. I'm only exploring the idea.

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Hatcheries that produce LF for egg production are a dime a dozen though. I need to find a niche market and there is no way there isn't one for bantams. If you go on eBay there is a wide variety of hatching eggs and you will notice the ones with bids and a good price tag are bantams. I'm not...

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

Enola(my phone autocorrected to Ebola lol!), I would love to have experienced chicken lovers work at my hatchery. I plan to have no employees right off the bat but I will need some after the first year or so! Coincidentally, my mother retires the same year I want to open the hatchery, and she is...

Going to start a hatchery in a few years.

And I am aware large hatcheries don't house most of their own chickens, but I won't be able to do that in the beginning.
