HAPPY FEBRUARY! Hooray for FuzzyButt season! I candled the other night and out of the 60 we set only 5 were duds (maybe more but I can't see the marans...)! Ours will all be hatching during the second/third week - I was planning for around my birthday
Ok, I'm going to ask a really silly question - I've searched through the thread and I've seen pictures but I don't really understand - I got a set of Rhodebars and one hatched out very yellow/white, I don't see any stripes or the spot on its head. I THINK it might be what I think is called a...
RIGHT!!! I mean, it's awesome enough to see them come out of the egg when you know what they are - being surprised is even more amazing!
Rumor at the auction says that they *may* be Japanese Bantams but that's hearsay and what I could understand from the man's spanish...
And Claudia - I'm...
So, I went to the local auction today just to see what was going on (it was raining) and I ended up walking away with a dozen mystery hatching eggs for $5!
They look bantam-sized but this makes the hatch even MORE EXCITING! if that's even possible!
Actually just did this - my Sultan roo found a way to reach my breda hens. I have 1 chick in a brooder now that is, simply, ADORABLE and will probably be standard size based on how big it is now. And her name is Ella (Fella if it's a rooster...) :D
They are just darling! I have a chocolate cuckoo orpington now and I just love her to pieces (Betty) - when I saw the lemons, I just couldn't refuse. I mean, it's hard to get me to refuse chickens in the first place, but you know...
So, my birthday's in Feb and all I asked for was eggs ;) I found out I'll have a batch of lemon cuckoo orpingtons, indian runner ducks, and cuckoo marans to hatch this month! I'm so very very excited!
I'm so excited too! Got the incubator going - got my eggs set! I'm with everyone else about waiting for my ladies to lay but I think I'd rather set them first thing (lol!) I want them to hatch already - I want me some fuzzy butts!
Just put the 10 Black Copper Marans I drove to get this morning - he threw in a Heritage Barred Rock egg because he didn't have change - It's a good day!
I heard somewhere (maybe here) that people put marbles in the cup of water so the babies, should they get in, can still stand and not drowned.
of course, I'll cross my fingers for now though...
So I'm hoping to come join the fun for the VDay Hatch-a-long. I'm not actually a fan of the holiday so this'll give me something to look forward to!
We have 4 Breda hens (gorgeous birds) and we put a Sultan Roo in there because we bought them all together from the same seller and only had the...
