Update on farm fresh, free range egg prices

I'm in southern New Mexico and I get $4/dozen for my eggs but I've seen them go for as low as $2.50 on Craigslist. The money collected goes to my son anyways. He feeds, waters, collects, cleans, and free ranges them so he deserves it.

what time do your chickens get up?

Rekindling an old post, I have 7 hens and while they turn in at dusk to hen house they are usually out and about an hour or so before sunrise. Sometimes even earlier. Is this normal? I mean it's pitch black and they kind of wander around the run. I'll turn on the light to the run to check on...

    Ever Been Locked In?

Great thread, I have to admit that I locked myself in the run once before. I'm in the middle of a remodel to my coop and run setup and had installed a new door with a quick latch locking mechanism. I walked in and didn't want the girls to get out so not thinking I shut the door behind me...

    Easter Egger club!

Quote: I am relatively new to chickens (Mar 2014) but I introduced two new chickens to my initial flock. I started with 3 RIR-s and 2 EE's. I had a friend give me a couple orp's a couple of weeks back. When we first introduced them they were very skittish around me and truthfully one still...

    Finally Started My Big Coop!!

Its coming together, I'm about to start a new coop and run project too. I'm still in the design phase but I am already stockpiling some materials for the build. I figure I'll start in a couple of weeks. Before you know it, you will have some happy chickens. What breed of chickens are you...

    Chickens in the Veggie Garden

I planted a 16 plant garden in beginning of 2014 and my chickens took a liking to it quickly. Truthfully so did my dog, she really enjoys digging up loose dirt. I went to an 18" wire mesh fence around it and the chickens never quite figured out that they could easily get over it and my Bella...

Any ideas on what I have here?

The first two started laying in August but I have yet to see anything from the third. My EE's also have yet to produce any eggs. In due time, I'll just have to be patient. I let them out daily from the run but they are kept in a secondary open run with no eggs in the area. Thanks,

What do you think of my RIR's? A lil over 9 months. I'm thinking 3rd one shown is a rooster. Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

    Pros/Cons of multi breed flock

I'll get a pic posted soon, thanks, "awesome you just can't have one" lol I'll have to get dimensions on my coop. It was a store bought one that I have since modified and added onto. My run is about 10'x10' and we let them out into their portion of my backyard daily (usually from 3pm until...
