I have a chicken doing the same thing. She was a friends i just picked up so I could watch her. She just sits with her eyes closed she will walk some then stand or lay down with her eyes closed. I don't feel an egg inside her but I have her sitting in warm water. Not sure what else to do.
I will do some searching right now! Thanks! I looked out the link you posted about broken bones and used that as a guide so hopefully it's right. I guess I will have to do something else now since she managed to mess up the splint.
She is improving. This wound is looking smaller and is being cleaning 2x a day along with giving her baby aspirin for pain and amoxicillin. She has TWO breaks. One in the TIBIA, that would pop out of place every time I moved her to clean her wound, and another in the JOINT from the tibia to the...
I have kept the wound unwrapped for a few days since she keeps getting the wrap undone. Her leg is still splinted.
Just a few minutes ago I went down to check on her and she had her splinted leg bent (at the joint where its broken) bent forward laying under her. I tried to staright it back...
I sutured the part on the leg but where the leg comes together there isn't a place to stitch to. If it did stitch it then when the leg hangs down it would be too heavy on the stitches and it would pull to bad.
I appreciate it! I am trying really hard! Since it is pretty much my fault I am so set on getting her back to good heath!
She is pooping so I am assuming she is eating and she is drinking I have noticed her drinking. She is in the basement so I go down there periodically to check on her. From...
The tibia is broken and where the tibia and the metacarpal come together in the joint is broken. Where the tibia is broken I can not wrap it because of the wound so I have to wrap it against the whole body so it stays in place, which when I wrap the leg to the body it covers the wound. I tried...
I have been told not to use blu-kote until it is almost healed and when you put it back out in the flock. Use the vetericyn but it has nothing in it to kill infection that's why you need to use peroxide and Neosporin too.
What stuff did he spray on it? Is it blue? I am recently dealing with one of my hens who got attacked by a dog and almost got her leg ripped off and has a large open wound. You need to clean it with peroxide and put Neosporin in it twice a day. Don't let it dry it. She will be fine as long as...
It is called Blue-lotion. A vet tech told me to use it. She uses it on her chickens and peafowl for deep wounds. I am using neosporin and peroxide also. I gave her the amoxicillin and a crushed baby asprin in a syringe with water for pain. I can not see the bone but i can tell the leg is...
Thank you so much. It really means a lot that you took the time to tell me all of that. I am not so much covering the wound but holding the leg so it doesn't dangle down. The wound is on top of the leg (hip area) and that tissue that is ripped would be holding the leg in place. Do you think I...
Yes, she is drinking and yes the wound has been cleaned. We are going to put tbe blue lotion on as soon as my husband gets home and off work. The bone is not showing. I am pretty sure that will be able to heal. She has not seen a vet. I don't know which vets in my area see poultry. I believe it...
