Day 20..Jill's eggs didn't hatch. She took over another nest thankfully cause the young one didn't stay broody and wanna set...so day 30 for her. 7 more eggs to go. Fingers crossed. Must put incubator on list for backup
It's chaos around here...last year 2 broody hens hatched two weeks apart..that was awesome. Same 2 have done the same this year...one has babies other clutch due Thursdayish.. AND NOW 3 girls HAVE DECIDED THEY WANT BABIES TOO all at the same time. The laying area has become quite vocal and...
@staceemcclain if you have any other laying hens and any who want to lay eggs with her you will want to mark the eggs she's on so u can pull any new ones...21 days and you'll have baby chicks.
@staceemcclainmine will want to sit on her eggs all day and come out for about 15 minutes to eat drink and take a dirt bath once a day. They get all fluffed out and dazed looking while sitting. Hope that helps.
Ma with the babies I had to give her..she's very protective of "her" clutch lol. My husband has taken me camping and I'm a worried mama. I have two other hens sitting due to hatch Monday and the other one two weeks later

@Crista that's what a couple of old timers told me...others may have different opinions. I have another hen setting as well, her eggs are 10 days younger. Fingers crossed on hers..due 27th.
So Ma's eggs were due to start hatching on the 17th...no chicks as of this afternoon. On days 14 and 15 we had severe storms. ..tornado a few miles away. Wonder if that affected the eggs. I pulled all the eggs when she came out to eat and put 2 fresh eggs in place, she was not happy upon return...
After more researching that's the conclusion I've come too as well. SOOOO I picked up some fertile EE eggs for her to hatch Still considering leaving a couple of hers too. Moving her to her safe place away from other laying hens tomorrow..a girl needs her privacy! Really I just don't want to...
