Thank you for the info. They have not stared molting yet that I am aware of. I just sent my husband out to measure and it is actually 38 sq feet, which is still not enough it sounds like. I will try the higher protein feed and see of we can add more roosts too.
We never Intended to have this...
The coop is 24 sq feet. The run is pretty big. It goes all the way around the coop (converted from an old shed) and extends on either side . they spend their days outside with free choice to go in if they please. I do not have any pictures, but I'll try to snap some today.
She is a year old. They are fed organic layer pellets I believe 16% protein or maybe it's 18%? Also food scraps from our meals. We have 14 hens and 24 square feet.
My RIR alpha hen has become extremely aggressive in the past few weeks. She has completely plucked out all of the butt feathers of one of her fellow flock mates, and I noticed yesterday that another one is now missing all neck feathers and some butt feathers. I also spied her eating a shell free...
My maran has a huge swollen area under her bottom. It's soft and doughy to the touch and has no feathers. I did notice other chickens ripping a few feathers out of her too. Any idea whatthis ccould be and how to help her? Thanks .
After cracking a freshly laid egg that I had to pry away from my young layer, I noticed this small circle in the yolk that I had always assumed meant an egg was fertile (from pictures I've seen online.) The problem is that I thought all of my ladies were ladies. If anyone could tell me if this...
I have a beautiful white EE who i thought was a pullet. Unfortunately I am not allowed to have roosters where I live. Very bummed because he is my favorite and most beautiful! Free to good home. Live in kane county Illinois

Are you guys saying they are both roosters? The multi colored and the white? I didn't think the multi colored was a roo at all, i was using her as a comparison, hopefully!
I have a new batch of what I thought were EE pullets from Ideal Poultry that are about five weeks old. Four have the chipmunk markings and then one is almost solid white. I noticed that the white one is getting more of a comb already and just looks different in body compared to the other four...
I ordered chicks from ideal poultry two weeks ago. I ordered EE's, black Austrolaups (sp?), golden sex link, cuckoo Marans, and buff orpingtons. They sent one extra chick that I assumed was another buff, but this week I have noticed that her legs are a not the same color as the others and her...
I am in need of two or three more pullets as I have only four currently and one is a dud. I am not getting enough eggs, so I need to make it worth my while to own chickens. I am unable to find anyone in my area who is selling pullets. Do any of you have personal experience using someone online...
