When you're predator proofing don't forget to dig down 10-12 inches and bury the hardware cloth so animals can't dig under. This is tedious and not any fun but it could definitely save your chickens. If you don't want to dig down you can lay it 12 inches or so on the ground around the coop and...

If it's open on bottom get some 90deg angles and bolt them together. This would very supportive I would think. Or just run a couple 2x4 under it and secure it with screws.
I have to agree with everyone else. I would think PVC would be slick. Also like someone said I would think it would wick away heat in the winter. I've used 2x4s with no issues thus far.
