They did just fine until maturity and then the toms started fighting, but I dont think that has anything to do with the variety. Narry are just pretty aggressive birds.
Welcome to the best Poultry resource on the InterWebs. I highly recommend some form of electric poultry netting as part of your predator proofing plan.
Getting 20 BBB Poults in June and need to build a brooder. Since the temps are soo high here by June I think they will be fine outside by about 3-4 weeks old. So I need to size the brooder so that they have plenty of room up until about 4 weeks old.
Thanks for any advice
Some really good info in this thread guys! Here you can just drive up to the feed store and buy ivermectin and a few vaccines and give the shots yourself. So I guess we are still country enough for those kind of freedoms, but we cant be trusted enough to buy milk right from a cow :) It all...
Im pretty sure it was a young male. Even if it was a female it was most likely too young to have pups of its own. DH did dispatch. He doesnt like doing it, but chickens come first. It was instant(well as fast a speeding bullet as they say)
Some good advice in this thread. I would agree that multiple hens is a must for happiness and even safety of the hen. I also agree that they can tolerate weather extremely well. Mine basically never go inside the barn even though was low 20s last week. Do you know the age of the birds?
Here is how to train your aggressive tom!
JUST KIDDING! This video is pretty useless, but at least its comical :) We have had toms for almost 2 years now and the best thing I can say is separate him and give him a couple of girls. Do not let your children around him. The older he gets the...
just to update. It appears it was indeed a small opossum. The culprit was found in the same yard with the coop the next morning just before it was full light. He wont be returning.
WOOHOO! I mean objectively speaking thank you for your votes. I always thought an opossum would have gone after the chicken/chicks if it was in there with them.
So we discovered some evidence of, lets call it a non-chicken, in the coop where our broody hen has her 2 baby chicks. I was hoping to get some opinions from this knowledgeable crowd on our CSI evidence. There is debate in the house DW says opossum and DH says squirrel. What do yall think?
