Ok, so i got an incubator, and set the temp to 37.7 celsius and 48% humidity, its automatic etc, but the thing is, my eggs arent hatching at the right times. Infact, my eggs were defo fertile, because we have 2 cockerals, but the eggs just arent hatching. Some hatch early/really late, and i hate...
Anyone know what breed this is? She is seperated from the others and looks tubby because shes sitting on 10 eggs!! Still not sure which breed she is, but we can put her in with silkies and she gets along fine. Any help would be nice, thank you!!
They do look a tad skinny, keep a careful eye on them, and handle them a bit more. They might just be frightened, and cautious of their new surroundings. I wouldnt introduce them to the 6 week old chicks just yet, until they are old enough.
They're just establishingn their pecking order, but in a month or two you should be able to see their combs growing, and if they are more redder and bigger then the others, and you have a roo, if not, most likely a hen.
Erhm, well she used her own eggs like i did. Mostly silkie cross breads. She had welsummers, accept hers were about 4 weeks old, so this confuses me even more.. ><
Its just sprung to my mind that i was looking after some friends chicks at the same time as mine hatched. Hers were doing the exact same as mine, and i was handling the dead ones, and could of forgotten to wash my hands. I wore gloves, but didnt change my cloves or anything. She was really sad...
Under the lamp. They are kept inside a shed with a window. I open the window a little, and the door on the shed is always a little bit open too. The last chick when it died was about 4 days old (when i put the eggs in, i put them in in like 5 a day, as we didnt have enough eggs at the time)...
The brooder is 3ft by 2ft, one side has the lamp under, and the other has a little shade over it if it gets too warm. Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll soon see if the next batch of chicks are ok. If not i'll post a new thread on and see if anyone new can help.
I did see them eating and drinking, they were fairly lively when they hatched and seemed fine until about 2 or 3 days old.. we are feeding them on average chick crumb, and we have changed the brand after the first couple died, still no luck. They are having plain water, and are on shredded news...
Well atm im using a little 50 watt bulb in the house, i know this is too cold but i had to seperate them from the others who were i'll as they seem to spread it to others. When we had them under a 100 watt IR light, they were still dying. It seems to be like an airborn disease :S
Ok, so, i hatched off 11 chicks, and one by one they started to die. Now there is only 1 left, and he seems to be dying too! What happens is, they go all sleepy and floppy and dont cheep at all, and their beak open and closes continuously. I really need help, a new batch of chicks are going to...
I used a pipecleaner on one of our chicks 2 days ago, and he is fine now But we have another one like it, and he is all fluffy and when we put a pipecleaner on he just flops over - I'm not sure if they poke out at the bottom and he is so small it off balances him! I want to try band aid as that...
Hey all, I'm new here.
My mum decided to buy a few chickens a year or so ago - we now have about 20 and have hatched our first lot of chicks in an incubator.
The first one was born yesterday morning, and he looked like he was doing the splits constantly! I had a browse on the internet, and it...
