HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

Concern: I put more wet paper towels in the bator because the humidity level was only registering 55% and I wanted to try to keep it at 60%. I noticed the eggs' air pocket was not increasing in size. I put another hydrometer in and it showed 90%!!!!! Please tell me I haven't made a fatal...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

Thank you, Kathy. I had never heard that about the increase in temp before. I've always used 99.5 for the first 25 days and then reduced to 98.5 for the last few days. Many times mine would hatch right on time or a day early so I figured it was OK. I just read what you're talking about though...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

I'm turning them 6 to 8 times a day. The "odd number" rule really doesn't apply to me though because I turn them day and night. I don't sleep well, so I usually turn them twice through the night. The reason for the odd number is so that they don't get left on the same side night after night...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

To be honest, I do have trouble getting the humidity level up. This time, I've got a humidifier running in the room with the bator. I'm also keeping a folded, wet paper towel. It's raised it to 65% so far. Since there's only a few eggs in there, there will be plenty of room for more paper towels...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

Great news! We have 2 growing embryos! One thing that concerns me is that in the past, her eggs often lost moisture faster than the others. I believe this is due to the unusual anatomy of mamma duck & there's not adequate waxy coating so is it ok to keep the humidity a little higher the first...

    Can I save it? :(

Do you have an update on the little one? It didn't sound like wheezing to me. It looked like it was trying to exercise its lungs to get them working properly. Did it survive?

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

I know it's too soon to candle, but my curiosity got the best of me. 4 of the 5 eggs just appear clear but one of them has a definite ring of life with what looks like it may be the beginning of a heart beat in the middle of it. Oh, how I hope so! I don't think I've ever actually prayed over...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

I was kind of joking about the "flying into the pond for a visit" part. Ha ha. I just mean you can tell she was definitely not that daddy's baby. LOL!

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

I'm being careful not to open too often, just to turn & add water. Yes on humidity & candlng. I used to always be very particular to not open the bator but just what is needed, but then I learned that on about day 10 for duck eggs, you should leave the top off, wait about 10 minutes, then...

HELP! 5 eggs from a very special duck...need help making sure they hatch!

I know this may sound odd, but I have had the honor of owning a 3 legged duck for the past 4 years. That's her in the pic below during her Ripley's Believe It Or Not photo shoot. We made it into their Dare To Look book last year. Her parents were supposedly full-blooded Pekin, but she looks...
