Incubator temp is 37.9c
Humidity reads 65%
Yes, I open the lid occasionally to see if any chicks have busted thru' the eggshell.
Regarding moisture in the lid ....... there doesn't seem to be. I noticed that there are vent holes in the lid.
Too large a percentage of my eggs in the incubator make it to the point where the chick busts a hole thru the eggshell only to die before hatching. What am I doing wrong?
Solution #1: At dark , secure your birds in their coop and close the access door. Set a Conibear #330 on the outside of the access door OR, on the ramp that leads to the access door. When Mr. Coon scales the enclosure fence and attempts to gain access to the coop, Mr. Conibear will end...
I've a hen that isn't acting right. She waddles instead of walking properly. As she waddles, she drags her butt, waddles with her legs too far apart and, droops her wings. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY BIRD ?
The eggs were not broken. I've put them back under her. Broody has been sitting on her eggs for four days. I'll search the BYC site to learn how to "candle" eggs. I've no idea of where "candling" will lead me, or, what may happen. Like I've said.......I'm a Newbie regarding peeps.
Now I've another situation. My hen rolled five of the fifteen eggs that she was sitting on, out of the nest and onto the coop floor. Why did she roll them onto the floor? Should I be doing something?
Thank you. Now then, the eggs and broody hen are in on of six nest boxes which was built at floor level. Therefore, the peeps can't "fall" out of the nest per se. They could, however, walk over to the door and fall from the ramp that goes to the ground. (Need I do something about this...
I've a broody hen sitting on about 15 eggs in the coop. When the eggs begin to hatch, what will I need to do to ensure the chicks survival? (Never, have I raised chicks in any way, shape, or, form ). Please understand that you are explaining things to a "newbee".
I've lost three hens to a night-time predator over the past several weeks. I live in South Jersey. Rural area and am surrounded by acres upon acres of woods. My run is surrounded by a 4' fence. I have no roof net. The predator kills the bird, carries it to the corner of the run, and, eats...
I've owned sixteen Red Sex Links for a year. Their run is 100 X 100. With the exception of Houdini,(my little escape artist) they have never been out of their run. If I were to open the gate and allow them to run around my yard, would they return to their coop to roost at dark?
I have three questions regarding hens that I would like for experienced chicken owners to help me with;
Question #1). I own no rooster. I own no broody hens. If I were to add a
rooster to my flock, once the eggs become fertile, would the
hen(s)...
Chicklover: Thank you. Since you are of the opinion that laying under the roost is okay, I'll let them have at it. I shucked about four dozen clams this morning for clams casino. When I shuck, I use scissors to remove the guts, then, I dice the rest of the clam meat for casinos. Do you...
I've a question for the BYC wise owls. (Experienced Chicken Owners). Part of my precious flock lay in their nest boxes. However, some of my precious birds have fashioned a nest under the roost and are laying in that next. I use the deep litter method under the roost. My questions are...
QueenMisha: First and foremost, thank you for your response! Houdini is a year and a half old. And, yes, she is growing pin feathers. After reading your post, I bought Pick-No-More on the internet. I have applied Blu-Kote, Vick's Vapo-Rub, and now, Pick-No-More to Houdini's trouble spots...
