    Surviving Minnesota!

@BlackBrookPoultry I ended up dropping the chicks in price to try and get them moving, before the others hatch, still nothing. This never ending winter needs to just go. :barnie It has put such a damper on spring activities. My little girl refuses to go outside says she won't leave the house...

Today is the 11th day. I put it back in with the pointed end down. Is it too far in time to correct it?

    Surviving Minnesota!

Have an incubating egg problem. Just checked on my eggs again and I have one that its air pocket formed on the side. The chick is very active in there. Is there anything I can do to save it or is it a loss??

What on earth killed our chickens?

Sounds like a racoon. Had the same thing happen to some of my girls and a rooster. An owl will take the head as well, but the pulling through th fence is more than likely a racoon. You need hardware cloth over the chicken wire.

    Surviving Minnesota!

I had clipped wings at first when I wasn't free ranging, but now i don't at all. I've seen my Brahma hens fly across the run...but only if they see me coming with the bucket of treats.

    Surviving Minnesota!

Oh no! I'm sorry that happened! That is my worry with predators being even more determined since food sources are low in winter.

    Surviving Minnesota!

Huh...I will have to open the door. Tell me about it with the ducks! I have a heated "pond" in the run, after the ice mess from them the year before. Of course this year one of the ducks decided to take a swim in the "pond" in 15 below temps and wouldn't ya just know it...the heater tripped the...

    Surviving Minnesota!

Well just opening the door and let them do as they wish in winter. Be it hiding in the coop or running in the yard. Mine don't really leave the coop or the hay paths I make for them in the run.

    Surviving Minnesota!

Do you guys free range all winter? I've been keeping the run door closed as soon as it starts snowing and keeping it that way until spring. I worry that some will find a warm nook to hide in and be stuck out until the next day or a predator will notice the feast in the snow and visit. (Then...

Well I finally got all the lawn mowed after three days....just in time to start over. This is going to be a never ending process with the push mower, good exercise for me.

    Minnesota!

They are a week old now. I think the big one may be at least a few days older. It's the only one that takes up the whole palm of my hand when held, the others still have some room yet. Lol

    Minnesota!

Well I am starting to question if one is a roo, it is bigger then the rest and does not have the white stripes on the back as the others do. It may be bigger because it is older, but it is big enough that you can easily pick it out by the size. I asked it if it was a boy or girl...but it didn't...
