And what about the 99% "Other ingredients" noted in Captain jacks....do you really want that on your birds? There's someone on Ebay selling Elector PSP in smaller amounts.
I have a crested cream legbar chick that hatched a couple days ago. She hatched with a lump on her head and her head/neck moves back and forth constantly (think typewriter). When she tries to walk she turns in a circle. When she closes her eyes, the head movement stops. When offered food she...
I will be getting eggs from a breeder...I don't have pictures at the moment, but they are very nice looking...lots of colored lacing and some splash hens as well.
As I said, everyone has varying degrees of success. I think there are A LOT of influences...how the eggs are stored, temp, incubation technique, genetics/parent chicken health, shipped vs non shipped....etc etc etc. I personally try not to set anything older than a week old for the best...
If anyone is looking for some chicks I currently have a couple available and will have more in the next few weeks...
Available now: 1 pure white bearded silkie and one silkie mix (White bearded silkie roo over Golden comet hen) Nice looking chicks. 2 weeks old

In response to Chikenscratch The "experts" say viability decreases rapidly 7 days after being laid. I have heard of people incubating eggs up to 2 weeks old with varying results. (not more than 40%)
Kristip. Premise ID is easy and takes about 10 mins online. There is no cost. I dont remember the exact website info but if you google Wi premise ID you'll find it.

I haven't had any fertility issues with my silkies...my roo takes his job seriously. lol. I only have 2 and my hen decided a week or so ago that now would be a good time to take a break on egg...
Thanks for the warm welcome. I hatched some ducks many moons ago...when I was in high school. I had a bunch of thick foam kicking around, so I decided to build my own incubator. It came out pretty well and has worked great in my test runs. I started some eggs today. I got some eggs from...
Hello fellow cheeseheads and crazy chicken people! Im located in Weyauwega, started a small flock a couple years ago, and currently have 8 chickens. I will be trying my hand at incubating some eggs with the kids in the next week or so. Wish me luck!
I have 6 chicks who are about 8 weeks old. One chicken was sitting by herself last night...when I picked her up I noticed that her crop was empty. I offered her water and she drank a bit. I offered her some scrambled eggs and she ate fairly well. This am she is still lethargic...walking...
She acts fine otherwise and has had a normal growth rate. I dont think she has anything blocking her vent...her BM's are very large, and are fairly dry compared to the others...it just seems she cant push them out all the way. (Reminds me of mega colon in a cat...I'm a vet tech) She strains and...
I have a 3 week old chick that is having difficulty defecting. She strains, gets some poo out but doesn't seem to be able to finish. She continues to strain, walks around a bit and will poke at her tail/vent area with her beak, trying to get the fecal material out. Her vent is showing signs of...
Hmmm, I wonder if it's just stress related or if there's another medical reason. Just thinking if you could narrow it down you could be proactive/know what to watch for with the others. Are they eating and drinking enough? Are their poo's normal? What kind of bedding do you have in your...
Do you have a small thermometer that you are able to keep at floor level of the brooder under the lamp? (to be able to monitor) If you add the other lamp, be sure to monitor temps under and away from the heat closely for several hours to be sure it's not too hot. Sometimes even away from the...
What is your garage temp? The room temp should be around 70....if the garage is colder than that Im guessing the lamp isn't able to maintain the temp. If you have a large brooder I'd try adding another heat lamp to see if you can maintain the 95 degree temp on one side. (Be sure it's big...
Thank you. I was hoping she'd pull thru but knew in my gut she wouldn't. Sad to lose her but her sisters are all doing great so hopefully its not contiguous.
